Today the under-privileged are by no means confined to the mentally and physically handicapped. Since 1929 the number has greatly increased because of our faulty economic and social organization. Many healthy men who are both able and willing to work have been forced into idleness because of inability to secure a position. Purpose of the Study.- The purpose of the study here reported was twofold: (1) to ascertain the nature and extent of gainful employment and the hazards to health in such occupations among boys and girls of high school age (14-18) and; (2) to inquire into the recreational and leisure-time activities of boys and girls.
The Area Studied.- The area within the incorporated village of Richmond, was selected for the study.
