This research was designed to help the Maine Island Trail Association and others interested in the management of the Maine’s coastal islands. During the spring, summer, and fall seasons of 2003, visitors to the Allagash Wilderness Waterway were asked to participate in a user survey. The user survey was designed to elicit information from respondents on a variety of variables to determine characteristics of the visit, including activities, method of travel on the waterway, length of stay, camping conditions encountered, and to determine visitor preferences, including satisfactions with resource and social conditions encountered at campsites and while traveling on the watercourse.
