Exploring Leadership Characteristics And Their Effects On Sustaining Federally Qualified Health Centers, Eleace E. Sawyers

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

An argument can be made for the continued existence of Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) because of the level of importance of the service they provide to society. The problem addressed in this research is that despite the millions of people in need of affordable health care, the leaders of many FQHCs are fighting to keep facilities open amidst financial struggles. The purpose of this research was to identify leadership characteristics that promote FQHCs’ success by assessing effective leadership styles. This study applied a quantitative, descriptive non-experimental approach. Probability sampling was used to select the sample size and the Multifactor …

The Impact Of Viet Nam’S Socialization Policy On Education And Health Equity Among Disadvantaged Children, Trang Quynh Nguyen

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The Xa hoi hoa (socialization) policy was officially adopted by the government of Viet Nam in the late 1990s as a coping strategy for its acute funding shortage in public services with the intent of improving social equity. There was hardly any assessment on the policy to learn its impact on social equity as documented in its key document. Using secondary data from UNICEF’s Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys conducted in Viet Nam and Viet Nam Household Living Standards Surveys, this study examined the policy’s impact on education and health outcomes among disadvantaged children’s cohorts: the rural, the ethnic minorities and …

Paradox Of Trust: Examining The Intermediaries That Shape Trust In Va Among The Veteran Population, Jonathan Mills

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has faced significant challenges in maintaining the trust of the veterans it aims to serve—especially those veterans most at risk for adverse outcomes. While veterans currently enrolled in VA care report high trust in the quality of their care, nonenrolled veterans report much lower levels of trust, preventing them from seeking the care they need. This study explored the complex dynamics and drivers of low trust among veterans who are not enrolled in VA healthcare, versus higher reported trust among veterans who are. The research leveraged organizational reputation theory and the macro cognitive perspective …

The purpose of this study was to provide information that could be used in considering policy reforms to improve the treatment of immigrants in Minnesota. This was achieved by exploring how Mexican, Somali, and Hmong legal immigrants experienced human rights violations in Minnesota as a vulnerable population …

National Narcotics Policy Influence On Youth Substance Abuse In Yendi, Ghana, Imran Abdel-Rahman Gomdah

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Possession of small quantities of narcotics for personal use in Ghana could result in years in detention under the Narcotic Drugs Law of 1990, with youth constituting a large number of offenders. The government proposed a drug policy change in 2017 as the prevailing one failed to achieve its goals even with such stringency, resulting in Act 1019’s adoption in May 2020 as a new national drug policy to replace the Narcotic Drugs Law of 1990. The purpose of this generic qualitative study was to assess public perception of the impact of the new policy on the incidences of youth …

Exploration Of The Implementation Of The Workforce Innovation And Opportunity Act By Vocational Rehabilitation Programs Through Collaboration With Education Officials, Elyse Leinani Luke

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Despite public policies intended to achieve employment equity for students with disabilities, compared to students without disabilities, transition-age students with disabilities are less likely to be in the workforce even after receiving public vocational rehabilitation (VR) services. The purpose of this qualitative, multicase study was to explore implementation of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) by VR programs through collaboration with state education officials to deliver pre-employment transition services (pre-ETS) to students with disabilities. The Integration Continuum was used to conceptually frame this study because the model provides a hierarchical scale with definitions about how organizations work together at …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Whistleblowing is reporting unethical or illegitimate practices witnessed by a member of an organization. The current study aimed to bridge the knowledge gap by exploring how middle-level managers in government organizations in California described how organizational and personal factors influence their ability to create an ethical climate that …

Minnesota Public Assistance Program Utilization Frequency Among Jurisdiction Types, Heather Ann Winkleblack

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Despite the 2014 creation of the Minnesota Public Assistance Program (MPAP), no taxpayer program studies covering the 2014-2017 years have been conducted on how the program was distributed for evaluating the communities impacted and determining if there was a difference between years, threshold changes, and jurisdiction type. Contributing Factors Affecting Health Care Access And Utilization Behaviors By Black Men In The United States, Alonzo Pendleton

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Generational racism, historical abuses, and mistreatment related to health care have long contributed to a lack of trust among Black Americans in the U.S. health system, as well as disproportionate health status due to inadequate medical care-seeking behavior. Black American men have been particularly affected, with worse health and a higher mortality rate than men and women of other U.S. ethnic groups. The causal factors that manifest and sow distrust of the medical community among Black men are not thoroughly understood. The purpose of this study, which had the health belief model as its theoretical framework, was to explore the …

Tax Incentives, Foreign Direct Investment, And Tourism Sector Employment Creation In Botswana, Ndinaye Sekwi Charumbira

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Unemployment is a major challenge for policymakers in Botswana. Past efforts by government officials to create employment have included diversification away from raw diamond mining and export by offering tax incentives to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) in the manufacturing sector, among other strategies. It was unknown whether this strategy might be successful in the tourism sector, which is more labor-intensive than the manufacturing sector. The purpose of this quantitative study was to determine the impact, if any, of tax incentives offered in the tourism sector on FDI and employment. The theoretical foundation for the study was Keynesian economic theory, …

Family Medicine’S Role In Addressing The Intersections Of Redlining And Climate Change, Daryl O. Traylor, Eboni E. Anderson, Brianna Clark, Alex M. Smith, Cooper K. Allenbrand

Journal of Sustainable Social Impact

Redlining, the practice of discriminating against specific neighborhoods based on race and socioeconomic status, leads to persistent environmental hazards and socioeconomic inequalities that have lasting adverse health effects on their populations. Health disparities are further exacerbated through the concentration of environmental hazards, as well as the escalating impact of climate change, which poses an increased risk of respiratory illness, cardiovascular disease, mental health issues, heat-related illness, infectious diseases, food insecurity, and socioeconomic difficulties in redline neighborhoods.

This paper examines the interplay of redlining, climate change, and health disparities, with an emphasis on the enduring consequences for these marginalized communities. Through …
