The Strategic Plan Development Team served as the main driver of the plan. This diverse team represented a cross-section of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and Board of Trustees, Foundation board members and members of the PSU Alumni Association board. A project manager and an outside consultant, Coraggio Group, facilitated. Decisions were based on general consensus. Separate “topic teams” provided deeper consideration of strategic themes. These teams made recommendations for the strategic goals and initiatives that form the core elements of the plan.

The City of Beaverton currently has 18 boards, commissions and special committees that are made up of Beaverton residents appointed by the mayor, and coordinated by the City of Beaverton’s Neighborhood Program.

Addressing mental illness in the American criminal justice system is necessary in order to ensure both citizens and officers are safe. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2011), published studies show approximately 25 percent of all adults in the U.S. have a mental illness and nearly 50 percent of adults in the U.S. will develop at least one mental illness during their lifetimes. The U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Statistics also indicates nearly 25 percent of state prisoners and jail inmates with a mental health problem have three or more prior incarcerations (as cited in Glaze …

The Topic Teams have scheduled their own separate meetings. The Strategic Planning Development Team does not plan to meet again as a unit until April 2nd. Members of the committee also presented the startup of the strategic plan website. The individuals at the meeting debate on whether a face-to-face interaction is important for feedback and should an online forum suffice. The committee agrees in having an online feedback page but continues to ponder the idea of an event put on by the Strategic Planning Development Team.

This meeting was facilitated by Coraggio. The committee conversed about the equity lens and its relevance on the Strategic Plan. Coraggio then opened the discussion for feedback on progress for the Topic Teams. The Topic Teams’ deadlines, organization, scheduling and team leadership are discussed as well. The Strategic Planning Development Team requests that the Coraggio group provides a template for each Topic Team so they know the optimal way in which to present their initiatives.
