Adolescent Pregnancy Attitudinal Survey, Amy Katherine Wolfe

A census of 53 adolescent females was conducted over a period of time beginning July 15, 2001 and ending March 5, 2002. Each subject was surveyed by using an interview with 66 items. The resources examined in this census were means of transportation and the social support structure before the female became an adolescent. The census found that 72 percent (N=53) of the adolescent females interviewed do not have a car, and 79 percent do not use public transportation. The census also found that 77 percent of the adolescent females interviewed do depend on their family/friends for transportation, and eighty-five …

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has initiated a research project that profiles the perpetrators of hostage and barricade incidents. This research is conducted using a questionnaire that is completed at incident conclusion. The questionnaire was provide .. by the FBI as part of a project called HOB AS (Hostage, Barricade, and Suicide). The HOBAS information is distributed electronically and in print to member law enforcement agencies. HOBAS information is used in this project as the main source of secondary data. Competitive Long-Distance Running And Its Effect On The Self-Concept Of Emotionally Disturbed Adolescents: An Evaluative Study, Elizabeth R. Rogers

This study focuses on the effectiveness of the "Runaway" program, a competitive long-distance running program, in meeting the program goals for the treatment of emotionally disturbed adolescents. The study reviews Piers-Harris Self Concept Scale (SCS) scores of clients in a long-term in-patient treatment facility. A Post-test only research design was used to compare the scores of those who participated in the program to the scores of those who did not. A statistically significant difference in the self-concept of runners and non-runners tested was obtained . The program met the goal of improving the patients' self-concept.

This presentation examines the author’s work focusing on "rethinking accountability" in public administration. It critiques dominant paradigms, such as rational choice and bureaucratic politics, for their superficial understanding of public sector behavior and provides an overview to the widely cited “accountability framework” developed with Romzek in their 1987 study of the Challenger accident. The framework is based on the idea that public administrators and other decision makers are constantly faced with multiple, diverse and (often) conflicting expectations, and that various forms of accountability develop as a response to such situations. Local governments confer significant benefits and costs on individuals and businesses through their power to regulate private land use. This article analyzes such regulation by using discriminant analysis to test a model of rezoning decision making. The results indicate that the best predictor of a local governing body's decision in a rezoning case is the recommendation of the appointed planning commission. This is contrary to both scholarly and popular expectations that pressure by developers or public protest is the major factor influencing elected officals in rezoning cases. The results suggest that citizen advisory boards may have significant effects on local …

This study is an inter-disciplinary analysis of the backgrounds of the Carter administrative elite. Various theories of political science, public administration, and ethics are presented in relation to Jimmy Carter's appointees. A background composite is presented of the elites' education, career before government service, age, sex, and geographic region of birth and socialization. Information about the elites was obtained from biographical listings, and was stored and processed by an electronic data processing system.

The Carter administrative elite has included persons who have been named to positions that do not maximize their experiences and qualifications in the most appropriate manner. This …

The purpose of this study is to attempt to find out how the police officers in the second-class cities in Kentucky view their work. Questions asked concern relationships with the public, their supervisors, and co-workers; opinions of recent court rulings affecting their work; and their sentiments about salaries and plans to continue in police work. After assessing the job satisfaction of the officers, the results were correlated with other studies and recommendations are made directed toward increasing the officers' motivation and effectiveness in performing their duties.
