On The Original Mission And Historical Contribution Of The Academic Divisions Of Chinese Academy Of Sciences, Yangzong Wang

The study primarily discusses the original mission of the establishment of the Academic Divisions of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASAD), and then systematically analyzes the institutional role and historical contributions of the Academic Divisions in the development of CAS and the history of China's scientific and technological advancement during the second half of the 20th century. Finally, the practical significance of understanding the original mission and historical contributions of CASAD to construction, development, and reform is briefly explained.

Strengthening the collaborative innovation of various innovation actors is an effective way to implement the national strategy of achieving a high level of scientific and technological self-reliance. China needs to learn from the mature countries when in the important period of promoting and developing the collaborative innovation among actors. National research institutes, as an importance part of national strategically scientific and technological strength, are facing great challenges in development and management under the new S&T revolution and increasing national strategic demands. Based on reviewing the evolution of UK public sector research establishments, this study takes in-depth analysis of the new idea and organizational model changes in recent ten years, including the mission and layout, external management, internal governance, and interdisciplinary research mechanisms of UK public sector research establishments. Further inspirations are provided for the reform of Chinese national research institutions and the establishment of new research institutes.
