Affirmative action public policy did not experience much debate when it was put in place during the late 1960’s. However, the debate is occurring in the 1990s. Its merits are being weighed and there are movements locally to eliminate affirmative action policy.

The Michigan construction industry is the focus of this study. This study examined not only these employment outcome benefits, but also outlines the outcome benefit trends over thirty-one years for national employment and employment in the state of Michigan with an emphasis on the construction industry. This study is a preliminary analysis of the socio-economic impact of casino gaming in Mesquite, Nevada. Mesquite is being studied from this perspective in order to provide policymakers with information that will aid in the determination of public policy relevant to and in conjunction with casino gaming activity. A combination of site visits to the area and interviews with casino executive personnel and relevant law enforcement was conducted for the purposes of gathering information for this study. Three police departments (Mesquite, Nevada, Cedar City, Utah and St. George, Utah) were interviewed to determine the crime rate in jurisdiction. Relevant data …

The southern Ohio and northern Kentucky area is a region characterized by an economy in transition from the manufacturing sector to the service and retail sectors (Scioto County Government, 1998-00), which is causing various pressures on the workforce there. For example, the unemployment rate of Scioto County, Ohio, a centrally-located county in the region, was 9.7% in 1996, or almost twice the unemployment rate for the state of Ohio (Scioto County Government, 1998-00). The landmine threat to innocent civilians around the world is personally tragic, but it also represents a massive challenge to the development and infrastructure of nations at risk. Landmines have recently been used to target civilian populations and refugees, creating crisis situations regarding agriculture, indirect health consequences, and developmental choices.

Mine action is a series of activities which, taken together, attempt to ameliorate the effects of landmines. This research is an epistemological and methodological study of technology foresight. The low realisation rate (28%) of technology foresight has put into question as to whether foresight research is a scientific research, and whether foresight method is a scientific method. ln this research, the notion of scientific method is critically analysed. A comparison between physical and social science research is also made in order to highlight their basic similarities and differences.
