VCU offers a rich and varied environment around research, however the abundance of resources and webpages are housed in the respective units. RAMS Research Maker-Space presents a prototype of a virtual research collaboration and resource hub available for use by the whole VCU community. This online platform aims to strengthen the research collaboration infrastructure by linking the research resources found across VCU’s two campuses into one access point. Designed as an open access, resource rich digital maker-space, it promotes creativity, inclusion, and trans-disciplinary research and scholarship.

This project aims to increase first-generation student outcomes by taking existing YouFirst programming to scale. The team proposes to expand university outreach and to leverage expanded engagement into the construction of a First Gen Network through a university-wide ambassador program. This network will grow programming over the next three to five years through annual faculty and staff outreach and the creation of a pipeline for cross-unit communication and collaboration.

This research examines the expanding role of public-private partnerships (PPPs or P3s) in Denver metro transportation projects in three areas: (1) innovative funding and financing of transit infrastructure projects, (2) the partnerships between freight and passenger rail services, and (3) emerging collaborations of local governments, transit agencies, and transportation network companies (TNCs).

The purpose of the first study was to examine the recent use of P3s in the Denver Regional Transportation District's (RTD) FasTracks program, a 2004 voter-approved $4.7 billion transit expansion program. This dissertation explores social equity as it applies to public transportation. Transit has long been considered a tool to alleviate inequity by limiting the effects of spatial mismatch and providing access to opportunity to disadvantaged populations. This theory, however, has not been adequately proven empirically. The first chapter of this dissertation tests the theory that spatial mismatch is moderated by quality transit service. We do this by taking a cross section of the largest urban areas in the United States and applying structural equation modeling to identify relationships between exogenous and endogenous factors. Internet access has become critical to participating in modern American society, yet the private market is no closer to serving low-income and rural Americans.

In May 2018, the City of Hillsboro announced it would go ahead with a publicly owned and operated, affordable, gigabit-speed Internet service for the entire city. Multnomah County Commissioners voted for a feasibility study of their own in June. The Port of Ridgefield, Washington, has big hopes for its own fiber optic project. Meanwhile, the city of Sandy, Oregon, has been running its own municipal broadband service for the last six years.

Penelitian bersifat kualitatif melalui wawancara secara mendalam untuk mengkaji dan menganalisis bagaimana keterlibatan Organized Crime pada perilaku suap di kalangan penegak hukum itu terjadi, faktor-faktor penyebab suap, proses terbentuknya perilaku suap, bagaimana koloni suap di kalangan penegak hukum terjadi, serta kontrol lembaga penegak hukum terhadap proses hukum. Mempertimbangkan besarnya masalah ini, perlu untuk meningkatkan Pencegahan, Pemberantasan Penyalahgunaan dan Peredaran Narkotika oleh semua Kementerian dan Lembaga terkait melalui sinergi berkelanjutan. Untuk mencapai sinergi ini Presiden melalui Instruksi Presiden no. 6/2018 telah memerintahkan berbagai kementerian dan lembaga untuk secara aktif berpartisipasi di Indonesia bebas dari masalah penyalahgunaan narkotika dan salah satunya adalah melalui program rehabilitasi untuk penyalahguna dan pecandu narkotika.

Child soldiers continue to be regular participants in modern conflicts in many different parts of the world. This dissertation addresses several interrelated questions about child soldiering employing large-N statistical analyses, process-tracing, and in-depth interviews. First, it asks how foreign state support and the characteristics of these donors influence rebels' recruitment of child soldiers. An important finding is that rebels supported by democratic states are less likely to employ child soldiers. It then investigates the factors and conditions that lead some groups to diversify their demographics in the types of recruits and others to not. Specifically, it considers why a rebel …

Contemporary Rural Social Work Journal

Non-medical use of prescription pain relievers (PPRs), heroin, and more recently fentanyl, continue to have major public health consequences in the United States. This article analyzes trends in PPR and heroin use, emergency department and hospital stays, substance use treatment services, and mortality to assess the relative impact of the opioid crisis on rural versus more urbanized counties in the United States. Our findings suggest that while more urbanized counties have had greater increases in opioid use, rural and less urbanized counties tended to be more negatively impacted than larger and non-rural counties. However, the findings are disparate and fragmented, given the characteristics of netizens and new media in the Big Data era. To this end, this article introduces eight mechanisms working on formation and dissemination of public opinion on network. Based on system dynamics, this article further proposes a comprehensive causal relationship model to explore the factors affecting the consequence of public opinion on network.
