VVAF approaches the security and well-being of Vietnamese citizens with a holistic mindset. Projects include demining, rehabilitation, vocational training, Agent Orange and dioxin mitigation, community-based mental health training and school construction projects.

Mines Action Canada has launched a new interactive online tool to explain and make connections among three groundbreaking international humanitarian treaties: the 1997 Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-personnel Mines and Their Destruction (also known at the Anti-personnel Mine Ban Convention or APMBC), the 2008 Convention on Cluster Munitions and the 2006 Convention on the Rights of Persons With Disabilities.

Measures are being taken toward land restoration and explosive remnants of war clearance to aid in worldwide food security. Global demining and ordnance removal efforts are contribiting to health improvements and land availability for sustainable crop growth. This article discusses the problem of food security in the twenty-first century and briefly reviews three sets of concerns that are converging to amplify, disrupt and transform efforts to ensure that all people have the food they need to lead active and healthy lives.

Because of their location and ability to serve populations with complex health and social needs, CHCs reduce disparities in access to care and generate significant costsavings. This brief examines the role CHCs play in mitigating disparities for one population subgroup, low-income women of childbearing age (defined as age 15-44), and the challenges that they will need to overcome to build upon their success in delivering care to vulnerable populations. Key findings include:

• CHCs serve approximately one in five (21.5%) low-income women of childbearing age nationally.

Disrupting, dismantling, and ultimately defeating al-Qaeda based and inspired terrorism is a declared policy of the U.S. Government. Three key strategic objectives have been identified for accomplishing this: attacking al-Qaeda’s terror network, undermining radicalization and recruitment, and hardening homeland defense. The present monograph proposes a distinct "jihad-realist" approach for undermining radicalization and recruitment to al-Qaeda. First, a brief discussion of six means for ending terrorist organizations is provided. Second, the premises of a jihad-realist approach are described. State education policymakers in Arkansas, and in all states around the country, take great interest in the state assessment scores published each year and are pleased when they are able to present positive results. This has certainly been the case in Arkansas with the annual publication of the results of student performance on the state Benchmark exams. While the state exams provide useful information that allow policymakers to compare schools and districts within Arkansas, they do not allow policymakers to assess the performance of Arkansas students relative to other students in the nation.

In this essay, we examine the assumptions underlying natural science, social science, and the humanities. More specifically, we suggest that social science in general and leisure science in particular be guided by a different set of assumptions than those guiding natural science and the humanities. Drawing on the Aristotelian idea of phronesis, we propose that value rationality more so than instrumental rationality guide social scientific inquiry, and that social science in general, and leisure science in particular, be viewed as a bridge between natural science and the humanities.

There are a number of innovative procedures available for use in qualitative research, including observation, note-taking and verbal protocol techniques. This paper highlights the potential usefulness of stimulated recall as an innovative technique for use in qualitative research in sport and possibly exercise. Specifically, it focuses on video footage obtained from head-mounted cameras for use in stimulated recall during post-event interviews. Examples of research studies carried out in simulation training with fire and emergency personnel and with leisure participants in a whitewater adventure setting, are used to illustrate how stimulated recall can be utilised effectively in practice. Mountain biking has become an increasingly popular sport over the past couple of decades. Despite its popularity, some land managers struggle to understand and keep up with the evolving and heavy use of mountain bikes on their trails. The purpose of this study was to examine the motivations, needs, and demographics of mountain bicyclists in the West Cuesta Ridge Area of the Los Padres National Forest in San Luis Obispo, CA. Data were collected using self-administered questionnaires on site, at two different trailheads. From a sample of 36 subjects, findings included their demographics and preferred trail qualities. This policy brief profiles health centers and the patients they serve, discusses how health centers are funded, and traces the history of health center growth. It closely examines the recent reduction in both federal appropriations and state grants for health centers, state cutbacks in benefits for adult Medicaid beneficiaries, and the anticipated impact of President Obama's FY 2013 request for federal funding for health centers. Finally, it looks ahead to both the challenges and opportunities health centers face as the nation prepares for 2014, when the ACA will be fully implemented.

This paper considers the Australian federal government’s approach to climate adaptation policy for remote northern Indigenous communities through the close examination of a seminal Scoping Study. This approach is taken to illustrate the lag between adaptation theory and practice, and to highlight important considerations to enable the development of a just and effective policy. The analysis suggests that policy in this area would benefit from the further consideration of three factors, namely the role of uncertainty in climate policy, the need for meaningful consultation with communities, and the benefit of integrating contextual and bottom-up assessment of vulnerability with decision-making in …
