The second of three Lewis and Clark related studies funded by Montana's Tourism Advisory Council in fiscal year 2000, this report examines interest and awareness of the Lewis & Clark Expedition and the upcoming Bicentennial Commemoration in 2003-2006. The study included 1,400 household mail panel surveys in the United States represents the travel population of U.S adults. The first of three Lewis and Clark related studies funded by Montana's Tourism Advisory Council in fiscal year 2000, this report provides visitor projections for the Lewis & Clark Bicentennial in 2003-2006 as well as profiles of those visitors. The study included over 2,000 telephone surveys in the contiguous United States less Montana and is a nationally representative cross-section of the U.S. population. In addition, the report examines interest in and awareness of the Lewis & Clark Expedition and the Bicentennial.

This study is a preliminary analysis of the socio-economic impact of casino gaming in Mesquite, Nevada. Mesquite is being studied from this perspective in order to provide policymakers with information that will aid in the determination of public policy relevant to and in conjunction with casino gaming activity. A combination of site visits to the area and interviews with casino executive personnel and relevant law enforcement was conducted for the purposes of gathering information for this study. Three police departments (Mesquite, Nevada, Cedar City, Utah and St. George, Utah) were interviewed to determine the crime rate in jurisdiction. Relevant data …

This study describes the impact of GRC on the State of Ohio and on Northeast Ohio, where GRC is located. Northeast Ohio includes the eight counties in the Akron and Cleveland metropolitan areas.1 This report is an expansion and update of an earlier study, published in February 1996.2 As before, this study employs two methods to determine GRC’s influence on the state and local economies. The first method uses quantitative models to estimate the effect of GRC on the studied economies. The report stated that at “12:50 on 15 April 2000, [the victim] detonated a mine whilst conducting clearance in the Cordon Sanitaire Minefield”. When the casualty was recovered from the minefield and tended by the paramedic, it was found that he was conscious and had sustained only minor injuries.” The victim arrived at the site medical unit at 13:05 and the field doctor arrived “immediately afterwards”. The victim sustained superficial burns to his left “arm and forearm. A minor contusion also developed on his left wrist.” [Apparently, he was not taken to a hospital.]

When they moved to the second site, they sent for a local villager to show them where the mines were. The villager led them along a trail where they found parts of tripwire and PMA-3 but could not locate the "minefield pattern". The victim and his partner went off the trail and found evidence of a PMA-2 detonation, then an intact PMR-2A and two PMA-3 mines.

During supervision of demining activities in Shin Dand district of Farah Province, Victim No.1 found an unknown device (probably a warhead) on 10th April 2000. He wanted to investigate the device further, so took it to Herat. The next day, together with a “radio mechanic” he took it into the office and attempted to defuse and dismantle it. It exploded in the office. The two men died immediately.

Development impact fees and exactions are financing mechanisms that local governments increasingly use to finance the cost of public infrastructure. The primary reason that local governments favor development impact fees and exactions to finance public infrastructure is that the costs associated with growth falls on developers. Two legal cases --Golden v. The Planning Board of The Town of Ramapo, New York and the Construction Industry Association of Sonoma County v. The City of Petaluma, California-- serve as the basis for the support of development impact fees and exactions as a method to manage growth (So & Getzels: 53, 1988).

This study, prepared for the Department of Public Administration, will review and discuss the rural hospitals in the State of Nevada. By virtue of its size and population distribution, Nevada has a need for rural hospitals. These hospitals, which are of critical importance for Nevada residents, are constantly struggling with how to build and support their limited health system capacity and infrastructure. To survive, rural hospitals must offset the losses they have sustained as a result of decreased federal funding. This study explored motives and identified strategies for service recognition of a sample (714) of Nebraska 4-H organizational and project volunteer leaders. On average, volunteers sampled were 43 years of age, parents of children in 4-H, and had been involved as a 4-H member more than 7 years. Respondents were predominately motivated by affiliation, and, therefore, identified most strongly with volunteering because of a desire to help others, associate with youth, and to be with their children involved in 4-H. Volunteers preferred to be recognized for their service by 4-H members in various forms. No relationship was established between motives …

The accident occurred while carrying out a Survey Level 2 at Save minefield and the first deminer was tasked to make a cut into the minefield to a visible anti-group mine. He removed a piece of metal, then checked again with his detector. Having got another reading, (heard by his Section Commander who was 10m away) he started to excavate with his “shovel”. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the longitudinal effect of a planned in-school practicum experience addressing cultural diversity on the self perception of student teachers regarding their interpersonal competency in such situations. Subjects of the study were eighteen student teachers of agricultural education and six student teachers of family and consumer science enrolled in the Colleges of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, and Human Resources and Family Sciences respectively. Evaluation was accomplished through the administration of a multi-cultural attitudinal inventory to all subjects prior to, immediately after, and at least one year after the experience.
