The Impact Of Ceta Activities On Selected Hampton Roads Manpower Programs: Cost-Benefit Analysis And Utilization-Focused Evaluation, Raymond A. Gromelski

Theses and Dissertations in Urban Services - Urban Education

The study examined the effects of Classroom Training, On-the-Job Training, Work Experience, and JobShop programs of the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act (CETA) on the job opportunities, amount of government transfer payments, and criminal activities of the 1982 terminees. The purposes of the program were to determine (1) program cost-effectiveness; (2) which program components operate at higher levels of efficiency; and (3) which selected client characteristics influenced program results.

The evaluation described program success in terms of increased job opportunities and reductions in government transfer payments for CETA participants in the Hampton/Newport News area. Comparisons were made of the employment …

Motivation, self-esteem, achievement and the development of tolerance and acceptance of others -- these are the goals that most, like Crain, et al., have come to accept as legitimate objectives of public schooling. Yet, there is substantial opinion that the public schools of Boston have been unable to achieve standards in these areas that are acceptable to the public, the students who occupy the schools, and the professionals who run them. For example, a recent survey of Boston residents' attitudes toward the schools indicates that approximately 3/4 of all respondents -- irrespective of race, or whether there were any school …

The desirability of randomized experiments (see Gilbert, Light, & Mosteller, 1975) and the usual need for quasi-experimental designs (because real programs rarely can be administered randomly) are staples of the evaluation literature. Campbell (1969) and others long have advocated the need for acquisition and analysis of longitudinal data in such evaluations.

Today's graduate students dutifully study trend data from the famous Connecticut crackdown on speeding and the British Breathalyser experiment to learn how graphs can be interpreted to shed light on possible program effects. The Cost To And The Public Relation Effects Of Federal Education Dollars To The Local School District, Raymond L. Cooper

All Master's Theses

The costs and public effects of using federal vocational education dollars in the local school district were studied. Twenty-five Washington school districts were randomly selected. Financial data were compiled and a survey distributed to these schools. The results showed increased use of federal vocational monies resulted in increased local administration, as school size decreased use of federal monies decreased, smaller schools spend more money per student, and local advisory committees feel that vocational education needs federal monies.

Physical protection of the life and limb of every school pupil is a heavy responsibility that rests upon all officials involved in administering educational programs. Therefore, this study was done to prepare an emergency preparedness manual for Parkview Junior High School of Community Unit School District #20, in Lawrenceville, Illinois. The emergencies to be evaluated in the study include:

This is the Third Annual Report on the independent evaluation of the California Master Plan for Special Education, which was mandated in Assembly Bill 1250 and Senate Bill 1870. It contains the findings from follow-up studies in six Master Plan (MP) and four non-Master Plan (NMP) areas during 1979-80. The findings are based on responses of administrators, support personnel, and special education and regular classroom teachers to question­ naires and to questions asked during interviews conducted by SRI staff mem­ bers during 1-week visits to each of the 10 sites. A Survey Of Administrative Trends In Sport Club Programs Of Selected Colleges & Universities In The United States, David Dean

The purpose of this study was to investigate and identify organizational and administrative trends in university club sports. The general research design was the survey via a questionnaire distributed through the mail. The sample was limited to the 102 colleges and universities with student populations between 10,000 and 17,000 as listed with the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association Directory. The questions were developed under the general topic area headings: Departmental Supervision, Sponsored Clubs, Memberships, Departmental Financing, Budget, Budget Expenditures, Contest Arrangements, Class Excuses, Academic Standards, Locker Space, Office Space, Varsity Status, Legal Liability and Facilities.
