This thesis describes the rationale for and development of an anger management protocol that can be used with middle and high school students. The protocol is based primarily on the anger management work of Goldstein (1999) and Larson and Lochman (2002) integrated with the Holarchichal Model of Executive Functions (McCloskey, 2008). The protocol also integrates the Collaborative and Proactive Solutions model of Greene and Ablon (2001) and mediated learning principles. This integrated anger management protocol primarily draws upon internally based executive function interventions involving goal-setting and increasing self-awareness and self-realization. The purpose of this study was to explore and identify key themes related to a child’s experience of anger. The existing literature on children’s emotional experiences stems from adult perceptions and interpretations; this study was envisioned to investigate the experience of anger among children using their own words. Participants were male and female students, aged 8-9 and in a general grade three classroom within a community school. Through the use of semi-structured interview focus groups conducted over a span of 10 weeks, participants were invited to disclose their understandings of anger and how they experienced it. Problems related to adolescents who present with extreme anger, disruptive behavior, and aggression is an ever increasing concern for school officials (Christner, Friedberg & Sharp, 2006). This monograph presents an anger-management treatment manual utilizing mindfulness and cognitive-behavior approaches. This program was implemented and evaluated in accordance with Chen's (2005) recommendations for program evaluation. This study employed a single-subject design with a high-school aged individual. Post-session and post-program evaluation forms from the subject and program facilitator, along with pre- and post-program measures in the form of State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory (STAXI) scores, discipline records, and survey/assessment questionnaires from the parent and a teacher were obtained. The Mindfulness-Based and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Anger Management program manual received positive ratings for the structure of the sessions, for the content …
