Understanding Gratitude And Thriving At Work Among Rescue Workers, Muhammad Faidhil Iman, Debora Eflina Purba
Understanding Gratitude And Thriving At Work Among Rescue Workers, Muhammad Faidhil Iman, Debora Eflina Purba
Psychological Research on Urban Society
Thriving at work, characterized by sustained vitality and continuous learning, is a critical psychological state for personnel navigating high-risk rescue environments. Drawing on the Socially Embedded Model of Thriving (SEMT), this study investigates gratitude at work as a key undefined personnel resource that fosters thriving at work through the mediating mechanism of meaningful work. Furthermore, we hypothesized that a toxic contextual environment, specifically abusive supervision, would act as a boundary condition hindering grateful individuals from deriving meaningfulness from their work. Using a cross-sectional design, data were collected from 238 first responders across the Fire and Rescue Department, the Disaster Management …

A quantitative cross-sectional explanatory survey design was used. The sample consisted of 324 Generation Z employees selected from a larger dataset based on age cohort, full-time employment status, and voluntary participation. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling with LISREL 8.80 and Maximum Likelihood estimation. The results showed that life satisfaction was positively associated with employee engagement and with mental health as operationalized in this study. Resilience was positively …

The Role Of Commuting Stress On Job Satisfaction: Burnout As Mediator, Andreas Ari Kristiyanto, P. Tommy Y. S. Suyasa
Psychological Research on Urban Society
Abstract
This study examines the role of commuting stress on job satisfaction, with burnout as a mediating variable. Data were collected from 113 commuting employees in urban areas, primarily within Greater Jakarta, an area known for severe traffic congestion, using a quantitative approach. Participants completed three validated questionnaires: the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ) for job satisfaction, the Multimodal Commuting Stress Scale (MCSS) for commuting stress, and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) for burnout. Data were analyzed using SEM-PLS and processed using SmartPLS 4.0. The results indicate that CS has a direct negative effect on job satisfaction and is positively associated …

In October 2023, when I was still living in Chicago, United States, Idhamsyah Eka Putra, one of the leading social psychology researchers, contacted me with a rather long text message. Although it was sent via a short message, the content was as complete as a proposal; it consisted of an introduction, urgency, and a forward-looking plan. He began by explaining that the concept of meta-prejudice, which he first introduced in 2014, would soon be 10 years old. To strengthen the presence of this concept, he proposed that the Journal of Social Psychology publish a Special Issue on meta-prejudice and asked …

This study focuses on the viewpoints of the active Karang Taruna group members on the island, as they represent the youth engaged in community development. Utilizing a qualitative exploratory phenomenology design, this study employs Focused Group Discussions (FGD) to gain insights into how the youth perceive their potential career based on their …

As environmental degradation and hazards caused by the information technology (IT) industry reach critical levels, promoting pro-environmental behaviors within IT firms is crucial. These behaviors not only reduce operational costs but also enhance employee productivity. The primary objective of this study is to assess the roles of consideration of future consequences (CFC), nature relatedness (NR), and organizational commitment (OC) as determinants of employee green behavior (EGB). Results revealed a significant relationship between CFC and EGB. Specifically, CFC-Future has a significant positive relationship with EGB, whereas CFC-Immediate has a significant negative correlation with EGB. Additionally, the relationship between EGB and NR …

Psychological Research on Urban Society
Society 5.0 is a concept of society that must humanize humans with technology. If the industrial revolution 4.0 makes humans more modern because they have access to technology, then society 5.0 is a time where technology becomes part of humans. Industrial revolution 5.0 employees are more focused on being prepared to think critically, analytically and creatively to adapt in the future. Therefore, this research aims to test the construct validity of the workforce agility measurement tool. To test the psychometric characteristics of this research, researchers will use an item response theory approach with the Rasch model. In this research, data …

Employee accountability is significant for every organization. Even though leaders are regarded as essential to increasing employee accountability, the mechanism by which leaders influence employee accountability has not yet been researched comprehensively. Employing the social information processing theory, this study argues that leader humility influences employee accountability through psychological safety, and moderated by formalization. Data collection was carried out by convenience sampling using the time-lagged data collection method from 279 employees in a state-owned company in Indonesia. Accountability, leader humility, psychological safety, and formalization scales were used to measure the variables in this study. This model predicted 38% of the variance …

Employee engagement has been a popular topic in human resources management and development for several years now. However, the majority of the information on this construct came from the perspective of other cultures, and scientific research-based literature conducted on the engaging behavior of Filipinos, most notably on the antecedents and consequences, is limited. Thus, this study aimed to examine P–E fit and organizational commitment as an antecedent and the consequence of employee engagement, respectively. Similarly, the mediating function of employee engagement on the association of P–E fit with organizational commitment was explored. A total of 1252 employees from different Filipino-owned …

Influence Of Work-Life Quality On Turnover Intention Among Jakarta Millennials—Mediated By Organizational Commitment, Francesca Karjadidjaja Ms., Hana Panggabean
Psychological Research on Urban Society
The current workforce in organizations is heavily dominated by millennials, who have high turnover tendencies. Several studies have revealed a strong link between how urban millennials perceive their quality of work-life and their company loyalty. Furthermore, the level of organizational commitment (OC) has been consistently associated with employee turnover intentions (TI). Based on previous studies, OC serves as a mediating variable for the influence of quality of work-life (QWL) on TI. This study applies three online questionnaires—the QWL Evaluation Scale, the OC Questionnaire, and the Intention to Leave Scale. A convenience sampling technique is applied to sample 280 millennial employees …

Past relational demography research has demonstrated the influence of demographic dissimilarity among employees on their work engagement and attrition. Little is known about how demographic dissimilarity affects individuals’ attraction to a team in the first place. The present research focused on the attraction component of the attraction-selection-attrition model to investigate factors that contribute to team attraction and their associated underlying processes. Specifically, we identified anxiety towards potential teammates as an affective response to cultural dissimilarity, which in turn influenced performance expectations and team attraction. We also examined implicit and explicit cognitions that might shape the impact of anxiety. To this …

BISNIS & BIROKRASI: Jurnal Ilmu Administrasi dan Organisasi
Leading a university is generally more complex than a business organization, as the situation requires the presence of a leader who not only meets the criteria but is also willing to lead, a very rarely found combination in universities. Interestingly, although it is not easy to find academics with such qualities, these people still exist because they see the importance of leading for the survival of the organization. Therefore, it becomes interesting to understand how they ascribe meaning to their leadership amid the difficulties they must deal with. This study was conducted using in-depth interviews with 13 academic leaders to …
