Not long ago, researchers and providers learned about the negative impacts that adverse childhood experiences have on not only the psychological health of the survivor but also the physical. Adverse physical health outcomes such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes mellitus, autoimmune diseases, and more were identified as a risk for this population. These adverse outcomes occur largely due to immune dysfunction through systemic inflammation. One group within those who have adverse childhood experiences is those who have survived childhood sexual abuse. The purpose of the study was to examine the race and gender differences among retired enlisted service members in work self-determination regarding the decision to reenlist. Existing research indicated little to no information regarding these factors. The independent variables are race and gender, and the dependent variable is work self-determination in the decision-making to re-enlist. This research utilized an adapted version of the Work Extrinsic and Intrinsic Motivation Scale, an 18-item assessment of work motivation theoretically grounded in self-determination theory. Research indicates that the COVID-19 pandemic had negative repercussions on the mental health of U.S. citizens. The purpose of this study was to explore the impact the COVID-19 pandemic had on depression and anxiety on a population aged 18 years and older. Childhood sexual abuse (CSA) is a worldwide public health issue. Although CSA has been researched internationally, research on African American women who self-report CSA remains limited. Utilizing secondary data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health, a quantitative study was conducted to explore whether religion and social support were related and differed as a function of CSA presence versus absence among African American women between ages 33 and 43. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder with onset during childhood and often persisting into adulthood. Statistics show that more men are diagnosed with ADHD than women, and that women are more often diagnosed with ADHD inattentive type. Treatment for ADHD has not focused on non-psychopharmacology gender-based treatment recommendations, and this has been identified as requiring further research. Parents with newborns who require medical care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) immediately following birth are at an increased risk of experiencing psychological distress. This study investigated the impact of toxic leadership on the mental health of employees within Texas state agencies, utilizing betrayal trauma theory (BTT) as the theoretical framework. The study was conducted using a qualitative approach, specifically through semi-structured interviews with eight employees who have experienced toxic leadership firsthand. These interviews aimed to uncover the psychological effects of such leadership on employees, with particular attention to symptoms of stress, anxiety, and job satisfaction. Police work, a high stress occupation with increased risks and adverse events, often leads to strain between work and family. Work-family conflict (WFC) has been shown to mediate coping with stress. In addition, offspring of law enforcement officers (LEOs) may learn self-regulation by observing parental stress coping and attempting to alleviate stress for their parent. Three theoretical frameworks were used in this study: WFC, spill-over cross-over model, and family systems theory. The purpose of this phenomenological qualitative study was to explore the lived experiences of young adults of permissive and negligent parenting styles and their experiences of resilience and self-sufficiency. The theoretical frameworks were Lazarus and Folkman’s diathesis stress model and Baumrind’s theory of parenting styles. Data were collected from semi-structured interviews with 20 individuals ages 18–25 who met the inclusion criteria and parenting style experiences for this study. This study assessed if attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) treatment, ADHD symptoms, social support, gender, coping, and educational attainment predicted self-esteem among adults. It differed from previous research on this topic because it included participants with ADHD symptoms compared to those with formal ADHD diagnoses. Grounded in Leary and Baumeister’s sociometer theory, the study involved using a nonexperimental correlational survey research design to assess this issue. A sample of 272 adult participants living in the United States were recruited. This qualitative phenomenological study explored the impact of the Strong Black Woman (SBW) schema on the mental health and help-seeking behaviors of Black/African American professional women, contributing novel insights to existing literature. Despite possessing access and financial means for mental health services, a strikingly low rate of Black/African American professional women seek such resources. The study was grounded in intersectionality theory and the self-silencing theory. Eleven Black/African American professional women participants volunteered. Previous studies have reported that intimate partners who are in treatment for substance use struggle with the containment of domestic violence.
