Background
Recent changes to Introductory Psychology curricula emphasize the importance of building research skills, but instructors may need additional support.

Objective
This paper examines outcomes of the Ready Through Research (RTR) program in which research mentors from local universities guide Advanced Placement (AP) Psychology students to design, conduct, analyze, and present their research projects.

Method
Studies 1 (N = 72) and 2 (N = 124) compare changes in students’ research skills and science/psychology persistence self-efficacy and examine student perceptions of RTR outcomes across two program iterations.

Results
RTR students’ research skill self-efficacy grew significantly in both studies. Further, …

Disentangling Trait Affect From Situational Affect In The Prediction Of Academic Major Satisfaction, Margaret M. Nauta

This study clarifies the role of emotions in determining college students’ satisfaction with their choice of academic major by separating trait affect from situational affect. Students (N = 196) first completed a measure of trait affect administered via an online survey. Two weeks later, on a second survey, they reported the frequency of positive and negative emotions they experienced in major-related classes (i.e., situational affect) and a measure of academic major satisfaction. Emotions experienced in classes were associated with major satisfaction after controlling for trait affect, suggesting satisfaction is not merely a function of disposition. Miscarriage can be a traumatic experience with serious mental health implications for parents. However, fathers’ experiences and outcomes post-miscarriage are understudied compared to those of mothers. Previous research focused on mothers’ experiences found that perceived ostracism correlated with grief intensity and posttraumatic stress symptoms, predicting unique variance in symptoms beyond grief intensity factors. We replicate several of these research findings in a sample of fathers and demonstrate that their perceived ostracism correlated positively with posttraumatic stress symptoms and negatively with grief reality (i.e. the pregnancy did not feel real to them). Background The COVID-19 pandemic presented challenges for mental health providers all over the world, since they had to abruptly change from in person assistance to remote meetings. The adverse effects from social isolation were critical in Latinx populations such as Brazil and Mexico, since these countries faced a great amount of social, health, and economic burden during the pandemic, which affected families’ access to care and increased inappropriate parenting practices.

Portrayals of autism on TV are frequently rife with negative portrayals and inaccuracies, but also contain positive portrayals (Jones et al., 2023). These inevitably both promote stigma and educate individuals about autistic individuals, and also serve to directly and/or indirectly impact their well being. The current study aims to explore how combinations of positive and negative TV portrayals of autism impact autistic viewers’ self esteem. This phenomenological study explored the lived experiences of eight African American male adolescent students' exposure to the career development process using transcendental and Afrocentric frameworks (Asante, 1980; 1998, 2003, 2007, 2020a; Cheatham, 1990; Moustakas, 1994). The findings revealed four themes: (a) students recall their first career aspirations from an early age, (b) the impact of family, community, and social media on students' career decisions, (c) students are concerned with the lack of career development in school and the impact on their academic and career development, and (d) the value of giving back to the community motivated students' career decisions. Prior research provides evidence of an Ingroup-Outgroup effect on open-mindedness, specifically, that group membership (ingroup or outgroup) influences Situation-Specific Open-Minded Cognition (SOMC), the intention to be open-minded. Researchers have found that group members were more open-minded towards critics of their ingroup when criticism came from ingroup, as opposed to outgroup members, and that this effect was mediated by normative entitlement (SNORM), that is, how open-minded participants feel they “should be”. The present study aimed to extend these findings, examining actual manifestations of open-minded cognition, as opposed to how open-minded participants say they would be. Doctoral programs in health service psychology utilize various strategies to foster the recruitment and retention of students of color, though limited research has investigated which strategies are used most frequently. Using portraiture, I explored how and why four K-12 public school teachers integrated boundaries between home and work and how this integration supported and was supported by self-determination. After recruiting four teachers who engaged in high levels of integration, I created portraits of each participant. Refugees often experience significant traumas due to the circumstances of their forced migration and displacement, including experiencing or witnessing violence, loss of loved ones, and the destruction of their homes and properties (Badri et al., 2012; Caswell al., 2011; Hollifield et al., 2002; 2006; 2009). Despite a decline in cigarette use, the dual use of cigarettes and electronic vaping products (EVPs) is a concerning pattern of nicotine consumption in the United States. Anxiety, a risk factor for tobacco use, may contribute to dual-use patterns; however, the association between daily anxiety symptoms and dual use of cigarettes and EVPs is not known. This study investigated associations between daily anxiety symptoms and dual cigarette and EVP use overall and by sex, race, and ethnicity.

The purpose of this study was to investigate mental health literacy (MHL) among Caribbean American adults and to assess the extent to which mental health perceptions (MHP) and acculturative stress contribute to variations in MHL. A cross-sectional, quantitative survey design was utilized to examine MHL, MHP, and acculturative stress among a sample of 138 participants. Pearson correlation analyses were conducted to assess associations among MHL, MHP, acculturation, and age. Independent samples t-tests and one-way ANOVAs were performed to examine demographics across key variables. These are generally effective; however, current technology allows for interactive images that seem to enhance engagement. How effective are these interactive images? Intimate partner violence (IPV) remains a pervasive public health concern with significant consequences for families. Traditional batterer intervention programs (BIPs), which often focus solely on the person causing harm (PCH), have demonstrated limited success in reducing recidivism, particularly when grounded in punitive or authoritarian models. This study evaluated the Child-Welfare IPV Prevention Program (CWIPVPP), a family-centered, trauma-informed intervention that engages the PCH, co-parents, and children to reduce IPV-related behaviors and promote healthier family functioning.

While research has shown gender differences in emotional and moral responses to crime, few studies have examined how factors such as crime severity, perpetrator gender, and monetary value interact to shape these perceptions. The present study explores these relationships in an area with limited prior investigation, contributing to a broader understanding of gendered moral judgment. Participants completed a survey featuring twelve randomized scenarios that varied in crime severity, perpetrator gender, and stolen item value. The current literature suggests that People of Color (POC) often hold more negative perceptions of law enforcement compared to White individuals. These perceptions are influenced by various factors, including environment, exposure to media depictions of police brutality, and personal experiences. การทำงานนอกเวลางาน (Leaveism) หมายถึงการที่พนักงานใช้วันลา เวลาส่วนตัว หรือช่วงเวลานอกเหนือจากเวลาทำงานปกติในการปฏิบัติงาน ซึ่งอาจส่งผลต่อสุขภาวะของพนักงาน งานวิจัยนี้มุ่งศึกษาอิทธิพลของความทุ่มเทในการทำงาน ความมุ่งมั่นต่องานมากเกินไป และความกดดันจากทางไกลในที่ทำงาน ต่อสุขภาวะที่ดีของพนักงาน โดยมีการทำงานนอกเวลางานเป็นตัวแปรส่งผ่าน การเก็บข้อมูลทำโดยใช้แบบสอบถามกับพนักงานบริษัทเอกชนในประเทศไทย จำนวน 199 คน ซึ่งมีชั่วโมงการทำงานตามสัญญาที่ชัดเจน ครอบคลุมตั้งแต่ระดับปฏิบัติการจนถึงระดับผู้บริหารระดับกลาง ผลการวิจัยพบว่า การทำงานนอกเวลางานไม่มีความสัมพันธ์อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติต่อสุขภาวะที่ดีของพนักงาน (β = –.043, p = .520) อย่างไรก็ตาม ความทุ่มเทในการทำงานและความมุ่งมั่นต่องานมากเกินไปมีความสัมพันธ์ทางบวกกับการทำงานนอกเวลางานอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ (β = .364, p < .01; β = .603, p < .001) ขณะที่ความกดดันจากทางไกลในที่ทำงานไม่พบความสัมพันธ์ดังกล่าว (β = –.065, p = .197) การทดสอบตัวแปรส่งพบว่า ความทุ่มเทในการทำงานและความมุ่งมั่นต่องานมากเกินไปมีอิทธิพลทางตรงต่อสุขภาวะที่ดีของพนักงานโดยไม่ผ่านการทำงานนอกเวลางาน ในขณะที่ความกดดันจากทางไกลในที่ทำงานไม่มีอิทธิพลทางตรงต่อสุขภาวะที่ดีของพนักงาน โดยค่าผลทั้งหมดมีช่วงความเชื่อมั่นที่คร่อมศูนย์ ได้แก่ a1b = –.0155, a2b = –.0258, และ a3b = –.0035 จากผลการวิจัยสะท้อนให้เห็นว่าปัจจัยเชิงพฤติกรรมของพนักงาน เช่น ความทุ่มเทและความมุ่งมั่นเกินพอดี มีบทบาทต่อสุขภาวะมากกว่าพฤติกรรมการทำงานนอกเวลางานโดยตรง องค์การจึงควรพิจารณาออกแบบกลยุทธ์การดูแลพนักงาน ผ่านการออกแบบนโยบายหรือแนวทางปฏิบัติที่ส่งเสริมสุขภาวะของพนักงานให้ครอบคลุมปัจจัยเชิงพฤติกรรมเหล่านี้มากขึ้น
