The purpose of this study was to investigate the attitudes, perceptions, and coping skills of college Hispanic women who have witnessed domestic violence committed against a family member, a close friend, or have experienced it personally. An interview was conducted to examine the women's attitudes toward the culture's role in the occurence of domestic violence.

Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) fits this description because the general goal of REBT is to attain positive mental health within the least amount of time and with minimal expenditure.

Because of its efficiency, and its applicability to individual, small group, classroom, and adults, school counselors should consider using REBT in the school setting. Those teenagers who are unable to remain in the regular school system for reasons including substance use are transferred to a continuation high school. Generic comprehensive social-influence-drug-use-prevention-activities are less likely to be effective for use with these at risk youth. Thus, both classroom and self-instruction (main mode of instruction at continuation high schools) versions of 16 activities derived from different theoretical sources were tested and ranked on immediate outcome variables. 388 students from six continuation high schools were provided with a pretest-activity-posttest “component study” protocol. Although the concept of forgiveness is accepted by many as profitable in promoting personal and relational healing, some have abandoned its historical connection with religious faith. This uncoupling of religion and forgiveness overlooks a progression of healing that both includes and transcends personal healing for the forgiver, and may rob forgiveness of its therapeutic power. A brief discussion of the historical roots of forgiveness is followed by a proposed model of forgiveness that exemplifies the progression of healing proffered by religious faith. Current trends in the forgiveness literature are considered along with their therapeutic implications.

In recent years, there has been a growing acceptance that childhood physical and sexual abuse lead to higher rates of psychiatric morbidity in adulthood. Childhood abuse experiences have been reported to be highly prevalent among patients with anxiety disorders. Similarly, childhood incest victims have been found to suffer from a significantly higher rate of anxiety disorders in adulthood especially agoraphobia, than a non-victimized, matched comparison group. Epidemiology studies also support a relationship between childhood abuse and the subsequent development of anxiety disorders. Robert Schumann was a nineteenth century German composer. His life was filled with suffering because of his constant fight with mental illness. He lived either in a state of depression or mania, which I suggest influenced his compositions. By studying his disease and the creative process for all artists I attempt to gain a better understanding of the affects of Schumann's illness on his creating. I also take a further look into the ongoing debate of whether or not genius and creativity are influenced by madness.

Attachment Styles Of The Prison Population As Measured By The Attachment And Personality Dynamics Questionnaire, Kristy K. Fuller

100 criminals from a maximum security prison were given the Attachment and Personality Dynamics Questionnaire (APDQ) in order to profile them in terms of relationship functioning. Included in the APDQ were items that were specific to the subjects' crimes or potential crimes, as well as questions pertaining to alcoholism. The results showed that the APDQ did successfully differentiate between those of the criminal population and controls. Furthermore, two dimensions were revealed from the discriminant functional analyses. The study assessed the factors contributing to expected ages of marriage in two student populations that are presumed to differ in academic achievement and goals. A primarily goal of this study was to describe the influence that adult attachment style has upon a person's expected age at marriage. A secondary goal was to explore other social and goal-oriented influences on timing of marriage in the two populations. There were no significant differences in attachment style for men and women. The effects of training on interpersonal distance and touch recognition abilities among 46 second grade children was evaluated. The children were involved in two, 45 minute training sessions each week for three weeks. Training effects were measured using the Emory Dyssemia Index-Brief Form (EDI-b). The teachers rated the children with the distance and touch subtest ofthe EDI-b. Pre-test and Post-test measures were obtained. A one way analysis of variance was used to analyze the data. This study compared 45 rural and urban families in their use of religion as a means of coping with the stress of a chronically ill child. Parents reported no differences between their actual use of religion as a means of coping. However, urban families were more likely to believe they should turn to their clergy for emotional support.

In this paper I criticize Cartwright's analysis of capacities and offer an alternative analysis. I argue that Cartwright's attempt to connect capacities to her condition CC fails because individuals can exercise capacities only in certain contexts. My own analysis emphasizes three features of capacities: 1) Capacities belong to individuals; 2) Capacities are typically not metaphysically fundamental properties of individuals, but can be explained by referring to structural properties of individuals; and 3) Laws are best understood as ascriptions of capacities.

Current methods for screening violent offenders for program eligibility are expensive and time consuming. Developers of the Violent Offender Treatment Program (VOTP) have designed 2 brief and economical instrument to screen offenders for program eligibility. The present study was undertaken to assess the reliability and predictive accuracy of the VOTP Risk Assessment Scale (RAS). An inter-rater reliability of 20 court histories attained a mean kappa of .8 I. The RAS was applied to court histories of 202 violent offenders released between 1985 and 1987.
