Assertiveness training, like any psychotherapeutic procedure, requires an understanding and tolerate of various values of clients. Studies exploring the relationship between religious values and assertiveness are reviewed. Ideological obstacles in assertion training with religious clients are considered, and appropriate therapeutic strategies suggested. The importance of presenting a rationale for treatment and of understanding the client's value system is emphasized.

Cognitive therapy requires an understanding of the tolerance for the religious views of clients. Collaborative techniques in cognitive therapy are described and ideological obstacles in doing cognitive therapy with religious clients are considered, It is suggested that confronting clients' religious beliefs an pathological or absolutistic is clinically inappropriate. Beck's and Meichenbaum's collaborative techniques are endorsed as important clincial strategies in working with religious clients.

The Effect Of Deliberate Faking Good And Faking Bad On Spiritual Well-Being Scale Scores In A Church Sample, Alice V. Moody

This study investigated the effect of faking (good and bad) on Spiritual Well-being (SWB) Scale scores. It is a true experiment with three levels of the independent variable: fake good, honest responding, and fake bad instructions. The sample consisted of 172 adults from a community church Sunday School class and a group for those overcoming some addiction and/or abuse. A demographic questionnaire was given along with the SWB Scale. An analysis of variance was run for each of the dependent measures: SWB and its two subscales, Religious Well-being (RWB) and Existential Well·being (EWB) . ANOVA and Scheffe post hoc test …

The Rey Auditory-Verbal Learning Test (AVLT) has been widely used in clinical neuropsychology because of the usefulness of its multiple measures of learning and memory and its ease of administration. Normative data has been reported for some patient populations but little normative data exists for healthy individuals. This study reports AVLT data for 222 job applicants, presently employed in a variety of occupations, who had previously passed basic-academic-skills tests and physical examinations and were motivated to perform well on AVLT testing. AVLT normative data are presented by WAIS-R FSIQ, Age, Education, and by Age and FSIQ combined. We also present …

The Popularity Of Integration Models, 1980-1985, James D. Foster

Farnsworth’s five integration models were used to categorize integration articles published in the Journal of Psychology and Theology between 1980 and 1985. In addition, the graduate education of article authors was examined to determine if educational background influenced integration approach. Of the 177 articles reviewed, 52 reported research and 76 were considered integration articles. Results of the review indicate that one integration model accounts for nearly two-thirds of the integration work presented in JPT during this period and that differences in educational preparation do not produce preferences for particular integration approaches.

The purpose of the study was to a) formulate an equation for predicting self-esteem and spiritual wellbeing among women molested as children and b) analyze the role of beginning age of abuse, ending age of abuse, relationship between offender and victim, family authority structure, and religious orientation of the home in predicting self-esteem and spiritual well-being in contributing to these equations. The sample consisted of 50 adult women between the ages of 18 and 60 who were involved in outpatient treatment for childhood sexual abuse in one of six outpatient treatment facilities in the Northwestern United States. Alzheimer's Disease: The Relationship Between P300 Latency And Pet Scan Ratios, Glena Lynne Needham Schubarth Andrews

The P300 component of the auditory EEG event-related potential (ERP) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) were investigated in individuals considered to be early cases of probable Alzheimer's type dementia (PAD) and a control group of similar age. Two questions were investigated: (a) The degree to which P300 latency was sensitive to neurocognitive changes in very early stages of PAD; and (b) The relationship between P300 latency and specific areas of reduced neural functions as reflected in PET scans.
