Throughout the nat1on there is a rapid increase in college and university enrollments. With this ever-increasing enrollment high school students find it necessary to make earlier decisions concerning their future. Such decisions usually bring forth the question, "Will I be able to succeed in college?" Such a question places much responsibility upon the high school counselor to provide students, as well as parents, with objective information concerning this transition from high school to college. Some of these tests are referred to as tests of ability, others seek to establish the subject's typical performance or how he is most likely to act in a given situation. Personality tests fall into this second class. The two general methods of personality are referred to as unstructured and structured techniques. The unstructured method is time-consuming. The problem was to investigate the adequacy of the testing program used for the assessment of intellectual abilities of primary school children in the Kanawha County Schools, Kanawha County, West Virginia. The Kanawha County School System has administered the Otis Quick-Scoring Alpha, short form, to third-grade students. Scores on these tests have been utilized for the assessment of the intellectual abilities of pupils in the primary grades throughout the county, furnishing subsequent aid in curriculum planning, and also helping teachers to assess the scholastic capability of individual students.

It has been the policy in the Waterloo school system for the past sixteen years to make the transition from manuscript to cursive handwriting during the last six to eight weeks in second grade. The first part of third grade is spent in a review of the formation of the small and capital cursive letters. The purpose of this study was to revise and simplify a new and involved test of musical preference. The Keston Music Preference Test in its original form consisted of sixteen phonograph record discs, or thirty-two sides in all. It took approximately three hours to administer, and the grading procedure was extremely complex and time consuming. However, in spite of these difficulties, the test has demonstrated its usefulness in measuring musical discrimination, or musical sophistication among high school students and college students. The purpose of the study undertaken here is to determine the extent to which four biographical factors could be used to predict success in Air Force Career Counseling courses. The biographical factors are (1) age, (2) amount of education, (3) number of years in the Air Force and (4) number of years since the individual last attended school. The criteria used to measure the success are the test score results obtained in the Air Force Career Counseling Course taught at the University of Denver during 1952.
