The Political Personality Of 2004 Democratic Presidential Candidate John Kerry, Aubrey Immelman, Adam Beatty

This paper presents the results of an indirect assessment of the personality of Sen. John Kerry, Democratic Party nominee in the 2004 U.S. presidential election, from the conceptual perspective of Theodore Millon.

Psychodiagnostically relevant information regarding Sen. Kerry was extracted from biographical sources and media reports and synthesized into a personality profile using the second edition of the Millon Inventory of Diagnostic Criteria (MIDC), which yields 34 normal and maladaptive personality classifications congruent with Axis II of DSM–IV.

The personality profile yielded by the MIDC was analyzed on the basis of interpretive guidelines provided in the MIDC and Millon …

以長江三角洲為依託的上海，在90年代以來進入了高速發展的軌道， 自92起上海的生產總值實際增幅均達雙位數，並超過全國總體增幅。上海無論是從城市規模、人均GDP、城市產品在國內或國際市場上的佔有率、利用外資規模，還是從城市知名度、城市影響力、城市創新能力上衡量，都已成為目前中國城市競爭當之無愧的領頭羊。中共十六大以來，中央政府對上海的發展提出了新思路，從而使上海建設世界級城市的設想浮出水面。上海要建設成為世界級的城市，上海要成為中國經濟發展的引擎和龍頭，這已經成為上海明確的城市定位和發展的方向。上海的繁盛和飛速發展已引起海外的廣泛注意，也引來了罛多的投資者：去年上海引入的直接投資協定額增五成六，實用額增百分四，均高於全國平均增幅。其中累積到今年9月份，台商的合同投資已達77.17億美元，今後幾年隨跨國公司及台商踴躍投資大型專案，估計引資增幅將持續高於全國水平。上海經濟的快速發展和上海對長江三角洲這一中國經濟龍頭地帶的巨大輻射力，使上海對台商投資呈現出愈來愈強大的吸引力。台商在對上海及以上海為中心的長江三角洲的投資經歷了若干發展階段以後，正呈現以相對單一到相對多元，由低層次到較高層次的投資結構轉化的趨勢，因此，筆者相信台商對上海及長三角地區的積極投入將會進一步對上海發揮巨大的經濟龍頭作用，產生積極的影響和作用。

Japan’s relations with the two Koreas have remained complicated and controversial, as recent anti-Japanese protests in South Korea demonstrate. This paper discusses the progress in bringing reconciliation between Japan and South Korea through an examination of four elements in the bilateral relationship: the historical legacies, the economic competition, the security imperatives (including the relationship with North Korea), and the flows of popular culture and people. It argues that the slowly improving bilateral Japan-South Korea relationship, to which growing economic interdependence, heightened interest in popular culture, and shared beliefs in peace and stability in North-east Asia all contribute, is nonetheless still …

There are different studies that highlight the work of international non­ governmental organizations with refugees. A large number of refugees is produced and received by developing countries. Governments in the Third World _have difficulties in assisting refugees. In the absence of a government role in Egypt, this thesis examines the role of local NGOs in assisting refugees to access their human rights in Cairo. For that purpose, 18 Egyptian NGOs, two international NGOs and the UNHCR Cairo Office were examined. Depending on the realist theory does not explain accurately the causes of the Turkish Israeli rapprochement. For instance, this theory neglects the nature of demographic and social formation of states in using this concept to explain alliances. The present study uses the Constructivist approach in studying these causes. Constructivists, argue that understanding how actors develop their interests is important in explaining international political phenomenon. The basic research problem of this thesis lies in the conflicting nature of the policies of the international financial system and of non-government organizations with regard to the state. Contemporary discourse in the international aid community manifests a deep mistrust of state institutions' ability to effectively manage developments reforms, but lacks the theoretical foundations and organizational methodologies that would be necessary to develop strategies to build up the state so that it might better perform its duties and minimize corruption.

This study analyzes the proposed amendments of the health insurance system in Egypt from a human rights perspective. It starts by outlining the international human rights law standards of the right to health concluding that Egypt has an obligation under international human rights treaties to which it is party to provide a public health insurance system.

The aim of the thesis is to examine if the e-governance initiative in Egypt can contribute to poverty reduction. The study utilizes people-centered indicators by employing Sen's "capability approach" where Sen shifts from the traditional understanding of poverty as derivative of insufficient resources to a new perspective which incorporates the lack of capabilities and opportunities into the definition of the term. The thesis concludes that IT is not the determinant cure that can transform the mode of governance within the government sector in a way that can contribute to poverty alleviation. The book The Final Arbiter addresses the legal and political consequences of the Bush v. Gore decision. This article presented as Chapter 4 addresses the lasting impact of Bush v. Gore on the law of remedies. While others have focused on what the Court should or could have done in the case, this article focuses on what the Court actually did by analyzing the text of the decision and the remedial platform that formed the Court's consensus. The Court in Bush adopted a new model of prophylactic relief that provided too much, not too little relief. Yet this prophylactic remedy …

Mapping The Irish Policy Space: Voter And Party Spaces In Preferential Elections, Kenneth Benoit, Michael Laver

In this note we map the Irish policy space, locating both voters and parties on the most salient policy dimensions in Ireland. Estimates of the voter locations are based on the Irish National Election Survey (INES), conducted in 2002. Estimates of the party positions are based on an expert survey of party positions conducted by the authors in late 2002. We show that respondent self-placements on a priori policy scales are highly biased and difficult to interpret, and we rely instead on building scale positions for respondents from their answers to relevant attitude questions in the INES.
