The study aims to examine acoustically the production of monophthongs of Penang Malay by five (5) selected female participants who are of the Jawi Peranakan community. Two (2) female participants of Standard Malay were also selected as a comparator to Penang Malay. The first research question focuses on the acoustic features of Penang Malay and Standard Malay based on their formant frequencies of F1 and F2, while the second research question examines the similarities and differences between Penang Malay and Standard Malay based on their acoustic properties. Kata pinjaman daripada bahasa lain merupakan fenomena yang kebiasaannya dijumpai dalam banyak bahasa di dunia. Menurut Payne (2006), kata pinjaman membawa maksud penutur dalam sesuatu bahasa menganggap perkataan, morfem atau pembentukan daripada bahasa lain sebagai leksikal dalam bahasa sendiri. This study was undertaken to investigate the similarities and differences of the Malay and French sound systems and to identify what are the problems faced by Malay students when pronouncing the French words. Cohesion And Coherence Shifts In Chinese Argumentative Texts Translated From English., Soh Bee Kwee

this study focuses on the shifts of cohesion and coherence in argumentative texts translated from English into Chinese. This research aims to substantiate theoretical assumptions by testing them against authentic data. Firstly, the study discusses the shift of cohesion by comparing the use of third person pronoun and conjunction based on the bottom-up approach proposed by Baker (1992). Secondly, it shows how micro-level coherence affects macro-level coherence of argumentative texts in terms of text-type.
