This portfolio compiles work the author explored and developed during the Master of Second Language Teaching (MSLT) program at Utah State University (USU). It encompasses a range of experiences from teaching abroad and at USU, insights from the observation of other classrooms, and reflections from studies in the MSLT program.

Three distinct sections comprise the portfolio: teaching perspectives, research perspectives, and an annotated bibliography. The teaching perspectives detail beliefs regarding games, computer technology, humor, and pragmatics and how they influence second language learning based on the author’s personal experiences. 在过去的十年中，人们对建立测试分数与外部语言能力等级量表或框架 —— 如欧洲共同语言参考框架 (Common European Framework of Reference, CEFR) —— 之间的对接关系的兴趣日益浓厚。对接本质上是一个验证假设的过程，即对考试分数与外部语言能力等级的对应关系假设进行验证。研究应认真落实和记录既定程序，并应收集多种来源的证据，以支撑关于对应关系的假设。本研究旨在建立一项国际英语能力测试与中国本地化英语能力标准——《中国英语能力等级量表》(China’s Standards of English Language Ability, CSE) —— 之间的对接关系，展示了提出并验证假设的步骤。将国际考试分数对接到本地化标准有助于使考试成绩解释与其预期使用环境的相关性更高。鉴于基于分数的决策对个人和机构的潜在影响，本研究也讨论了用本地化的能力等级来解释考试分数时应考虑的语境问题。文章结尾对同类对接研究的开展提出了一些建议。

The past decade has seen an emerging interest in aligning test scores to language proficiency levels of external performance scales or frameworks, such as the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). Such alignment is ultimately a claim about the interpretation of test scores in relation to external levels of language proficiency. To support such a claim, established procedures should be carefully implemented and documented, and multiple sources of evidence should be collected. This article examines the editorials in Koran Tempo and Kompas in representing their ideology of COVID-19 handling in Indonesia. This linguistic research is conducted qualitative­ly. The data were in the form of Indonesian-language editorial discourse, which discussed the COVID-19 handling in Indonesia. The written research data were taken from national news­papers, namely Koran Tempo and Kompas, and were obtained through the use of listening and note-taking techniques. They were then analyzed using Van Dijk’s critical discourse analysis model. In 2019, there were 63.022 learners of Indonesian as a foreign language in Victorian schools, Australia. They were facilitated by 263 Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) local teachers. Due to a shortage of BIPA local teachers, the Department of Education and Training Victoria had recruited language assistants from Indonesia. This study is aimed to describe the required skillsets of BIPA language assistants to support their duties. The data were collected through interviews, an inventory, observations, and stories of eight Indonesian language assistants with one year of experience. This case study aims to find out how teachers of the International Class Program at an elementary school in Malang incorporated critical thinking (CT) pedagogy in teaching subjects with English as a Medium of Instruction. Eighteen teachers filled in an online questionnaire, and two of them were interviewed. The objective of this study is to look at learning indicators and contextualize extrinsic and intrinsic components in three Indonesian language textbooks for elementary school students. This study employs a qualitative research approach with a content analysis design to attain this purpose. Over the course of our research project, we were able to interview 27 working Learners employed in frontline service work in the US. Our plans to expand this data set and conduct in-person follow-up interviews was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to have some sense of what our participants' education, work, and lived experiences were like in the year after our interviews, we sent a follow-up questionnaire to all 27 in the summer of 2021 and received responses from 13 individuals. US students who are blind or have visual impairments do not read at the level of a third-grader with typical sight until, on average, halfway through the seventh grade. As a first step toward narrowing that gap, we investigated levels of linguistic awareness among teachers of students who are blind or visually impaired (TSBVIs) because research with general education teachers has demonstrated a link between teacher linguistic awareness and student literacy outcomes. This study used statistical analysis of enrollment records for ESL programs at community colleges throughout California from 2015-2019 to determine whether adult immigrants’ participation in public ESL programs was reduced under President Donald Trump. Immigrant families’ lesser use of public education services and means-tested federal benefits has been widely documented in the wake of Trump’s expansion of the public charge rule, which counted immigrants’ use of a wider array of public benefits against their case for residency in the United States than had any previous iteration of the rule. Background: Passing the United States citizenship exam can be challenging for refugee populations for several reasons, including affordability of English classes, time restraints, medical stressors, and limited formal education. The purpose of this study was to examine factors that may influence a refugees’ ability to pass the citizenship exam, including English proficiency, education, employment, and completion of English as a Second Language (ESL) classes.
