This chapter discusses the findings of a national survey conducted to gain insight into academic librarians’ assignment design practices for one- shot and semester courses, with a focus on the degree to which librarians are utilizing elements of transparent assignment design.

In January 2018, the ACRL Health Sciences Interest Group (HSIG) convened a working group to revise the ACRL Information Literacy Competency Standards for Nursing (2013) into a Framework for Information Literacy in Higher Education for Nursing. For nearly two years, the working group has conducted research to understand how nursing faculty integrate information literacy instruction in nursing education. Results from a review of the literature and surveying of nursing faculty at nine higher education institutions suggest that a majority of nursing faculty are unaware of the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education but are intentional in using the …

The ever-changing education and information landscape has brought with it an increased focus on teaching pedagogy and curriculum design. In response, Latin American Studies faculty are pursuing creative pedagogical directions and approaches in areas such as digital scholarship and information literacy in partnership with librarians and archivists. This roundtable will explore faculty-librarians practice-based initiatives focusing on issues related to the Global North and South. Developing LibGuides for Law and Paralegal Studies students at New York City College of Technology arose from the following question: how do we change the way legal studies students think of the Library as a resource to better assist them in their transition to college level-research and a future career as a paralegal. At the heart of this question is the importance of discipline-specific information literacy at the college and professional levels. Evaluation of library instruction (LI) at the University of St. Augustine found that students did well on assignments tied to LI and were more likely to participate in LI when it was required. Incorporating data points into the library’s overall assessment and strategic plan allowed for ongoing assessment of LI.

Open educational resources address the crisis college students face purchasing textbooks. Although academic librarians play a prominent role implementing the open educational resource solution, by engaging faculty in their use and creation, librarians could go further. At the College of New Rochelle, instruction librarians teamed up with the Scholarly Communications Librarian to revise and remix an already existing information literacy textbook. This case study outlines how an open educational resource textbook was altered and localized to reflect students’ lived reality. The textbook was used in a credit-bearing information literacy course for the College’s Liberal Arts adult education B.A. program.

This article highlights a case study that assesses how graduate-level, in-service science teachers engage in an ePortfolio social pedagogy ecosystem to document their growth in knowledge practices and dispositions in information literacy. The ePortfolio social pedagogy ecosystem and this study are situated within the context of the Catalyst Framework. The three modes of interrelated social learning activities include: (1) authoring the written ePortfolio in an online ePortfolio digital media platform, (2) presenting the ePortfolio in the webinar platform, and (3) presenting the ePortfolio in- person in a physical setting. Presented at FIU Online’s Affordability Counts Workshop on March 3, 2019. FIU Librarians Christopher M. Jimenez and Ramces L. Marsilli present the library as a cost-effective alternative to textbooks. The librarians demonstrate ways to locate resources in both the catalog and in databases. They also demonstrate ways to embed content into canvas through permalinks and LTI's. Finally, the librarians announce OER options that are available to the faculty.
