Beginning in the fall of 2017, the Harold B. Lee Library at Brigham Young University undertook a project to assess our science collections due to a planned expansion of our library information technology department. Our teams evaluated 18,578 shelves of content and decided to either (1) keep an item on the shelf, (2) or move it to on-site auxiliary storage, or (3) withdraw it. They worked with fellow subject librarians and faculty around campus to communicate about the work being done and offer opportunities to review the potential withdraw material before it left the building. Adelphi University Libraries started an e-book demand-driven acquisitions (DDA) program with Ebrary in January 2014. After one short-term loan a second use triggered a purchase. This trigger was determined by an analysis of how e-books were used in the subscription component of Ebrary, Academic Complete. Titles were added to the pool according to our slip plan profile with YBP. Librarians could also manually add e-book titles to the DDA pool.

To see if our trigger point should be adjusted for our current DDA with ProQuest Ebook Central, statistics were harvested from the Ebrary administrative portal for January 2014 through January …

When libraries make the decision to transition from print to electronic books, it is often a zero-sum game; if the library is to license the electronic version of a title, it tends not to buy it in print. This study examines print purchase and usage patterns after a large e-book acquisition by the University of Toronto Libraries, when subject selectors had the option to continue to purchase the titles in print. Data on print purchasing patterns, print title circulation, and electronic book use was examined both at the aggregate and the subject level. The study adds evidence to the growing …

Games-based learning is a new concept that is used for teaching information literacy skills, which so far has been mostly given in classrooms and is one-way. The respondents taken were all new students participating in games-based learning activities, in 2018. In the implementation of games-based learning divided into 5 posts, where each post represents one information literacy skill material. The results are as follows identification of information (3.46), access to information (3.59), using information (3.36), synthesis (3.52) and plagiarism (3.55). This article discusses about information seeking behavior of 12th grade students of SMA Negeri 26 Jakarta to pursue higher education. This article also discusses obstacles found during the process of information searching. This is a qualitative research with observation and interview as methods to collect data. The result shows that all informants conducted searching about higher education in the same way with what was stated by David Ellis (1993) started with starting, chaining, browsing, differentiating, monitoring, extracting, verifying, and ending.

This article describes the distinct of privacy and security issues that are simultaneously operant in the KMS practices. It identifies several perceptions of privacy and security issues in the company’s KMS settings. By studying the perspective, authors provide a conceptual directions to the fog of misunderstandings around privacy and security in company’s KMS settings. An exploratory sequential mixed method research design was adopted. A questionnaire survey was administered by authors personally handing to KM staff in three companies, followed by semi-structure interviews with four KM staff. Prioritizing Resources for Third Year Medical Students To assess the effectiveness of using library surveys as a means of prioritizing resources for collection development. In the third year of medical undergraduate education, students are undergoing their core clinical rotations. During this period, exams in the core areas must be passed and therefore, access to relevant library resources is vital for successful completion. Objective: To discover whether adding leisure books, according to a carefully designed collection development policy, to a consumer health collection (CHC) in a hospital would lead to an increase in usage of the CHC collection, an increased number of monthly subscriptions for membership in the Health Information Center (HIC), and change in the subject of materials circulated.

Methods: The collection development policy, specifically for the Leisure Reading Collection (LRC), included bestselling titles within 3 years, award winning fiction, and classics.
