The multicultural literature movement has its roots in civil rights and the desire to give voice and representation to marginalized cultures. Literature is a societal artifact that can inform and influence the development of cultural identity. Deaf culture is a unique culture that is underrepresented in young adult literature. This underrepresentation places more importance on accurate representations of Deaf culture since young adult fiction may be the only exposure to Deaf culture that both hearing and deaf teenagers may have. This article uses the case study of the Nevada Digital Newspaper Project (https://nvdnp.wordpress.com/), an extension of the National Digital Newspaper Program (https://www.loc.gov/ndnp/), to introduce proven strategies on how to successfully manage a large-scale digitization project. It provides tips on how to stay within the timeline and deliver products with outstanding quality, leveraging limited human resources, and engaging an external digitization vendor. It discusses practical project management techniques and tools, strategies for establishing collaborative vendor partnerships, and strategies for efficient communication with stakeholders.

S&DI assessed Digital Collections when the William H. Hannon Library CONTENTdm instance became unsupported. Quartex has changed library's capability to manage digital assets, unify workflows with Archives and Special Collections, and provide patrons with a dynamic experience with a modern interface. William H. Hannon Library selected Quartex, a fully-hosted solution, because its potential to develop a Digital Collection with greater UI and UX. In addition, Quartex, unlike many systems, allows for the ingest of different types of formats, including video formats. In 2013, the Kennesaw State University (KSU) Library System hired its first Collection Development Librarian. Since then, the Library System has experienced remarkable changes and growth in many areas, including institutional consolidation, facility renovations, new staffing, and organizational restructuring. Of note is the establishment and extraordinary growth of the Collection Development Unit since 2015. With a good dose of creativity, these changes enabled us to grow into a flourishing team. By pulling together talent from other library units and creating positions from the ground up, we were able to generate something new.

Effective collaboration between archives and technical services can increase the discoverability of special collection materials. Archivists at the University of Dayton Libraries began using Archive-It to capture websites relevant to their collecting policies in 2015. However, the collections were only made available to users from the University of Dayton page on the Archive-It website. Content was isolated in a separate platform and was not promoted to users. Working together, the team of archivists and technical services librarians incorporated the web archive collections into the Libraries’ EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) discovery layer. This document outlines the four main avenues for depositing materials with UNL Libraries. Although there are separate repositories with specific missions—Archives and Special Collections, DigitalCommons@University of Nebraska–Lincoln, UNL Data Repository, and UNL Image and Multimedia Collections—all work together toward the goal of preserving the intellectual and creative output of the university and to make our contributions discoverable to state, national, and international communities. A History Harvest is a collaborative approach to community archiving, which leverages the skills of historians, librarians, or archivists and creates experiential learning opportunities for students to collect, digitize, and share cultural heritage objects and oral histories online. In many cases, archival skills are needed to curate and preserve the digital objects created and collected during History Harvest events. In this session, presenters discuss how we can contribute our skills, knowledge, and repository resources to support our local and regional communities and diversify the historical voice preserved in our collections.

On February 28, 2019, the University of California (UC) System announced the cancellation of their $50 million journal subscription deal with Elsevier. The impetus behind the UC decision comes from two issues. Firstly, the increasing costs of journal subscriptions in a landscape where library budgets remain flat. Secondly, the effort to shift the journal publishing model away from subscriptions to a sustainable open access model. In 2018 Florida International University (FIU) Libraries launched Athenaeum: Scholarly Works of the FIU Libraries Faculty and Staff.
