Even though Demand or Patron Driven Acquisitions have been around for many years, the number of libraries using this model is on the rise. Libraries are experiencing a resurgence with programs such as EBL, EBSCO, and eBrary. This session provided conference attendees the information to plan for and implement a DDA/PDA program.

More patrons are using their smart phones and tablets to access library resources as providers add specific applications or Web functionality for their products. This session will cover library services on mobile devices such as e-books, e-journals, electronic indexes, and other mobile applications. We will discuss those subscription services that are mobile ready like EBSCOhost and LibGuides and mobile add-ons such as the iPad app for The Chronicle and the impact this has on licensing and support.

Journals Supporting Terrorism Research: Identification And Investigation Into Their Impact On The Social Sciences, Daryl R. Bullis, Richard Irving

University Libraries Faculty Scholarship

A citation analysis of two preeminent terrorism journals (Terrorism and Political Violence and Studies in Conflict and Terrorism) was used to identify 37 additional social science journals of significant importance to terrorism research. Citation data extracted from the Web of Science database was used to investigate the impact of the two journals on the social science journal literature. The impact of the two journals was also analyzed in terms of SSCI subject categories. This study could provide useful information for collection development librarians interested in the social sciences.

Purpose – While academic libraries have often purchased proprietary software to assess patron satisfaction, the open source movement has generated high-quality software available free of charge. These tools are useful alternatives in an era marked by tremendous budget cuts familiar to many academic libraries. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the ability of open source software to effectively and affordably measure the quality of service at academic libraries.

Unlike congressional and presidential papers collections, which have a rich archival literature in support of their acquisition and management, archivists and researchers frequently overlook and undervalue state legislators’ papers. One reason for undervaluing state legislators’ papers is the lack of legal guidelines in most states for ownership of these political papers. Purpose
– This paper aims to provide an overview of the field of hospitality management and a guide to the major books, databases, web sites, and other resources that comprise a quality hospitality management reference collection.
