Collecting Virtual And Augmented Reality In The Twenty-First Century Library, Matthew Hannah, Sarah Huber, Sorin Adam Matei

In this paper, we discuss possible pedagogical applications for virtual and augmented reality (VR and AR), within a humanities/social sciences curriculum, articulating a critical need for academic libraries to collect and curate 3D objects. We contend that building infrastructure is critical to keep pace with innovative pedagogies and scholarship. We offer theoretical avenues for libraries to build a repository 3D object files to be used in VR and AR tools and sketch some anticipated challenges. FIMS Publications

The LGBTQ+ community has had to continuously fight for their rights, including their right to be represented in the library. This toolkit provides instruction on how to develop and manage a library collection of LGBTQ+ children’s picture books. It is split into four sections that include a guide to evaluating materials, recommended picture books, a guide to fighting censorship, and a list of recommended resources.

Diverse representation in picture books is important for the wellbeing of children and families; this includes LGBTQ+ representation, a frequently contested area of literature. Our poster identifies 33 of the most frequently recommended picture books with LGBTQ+ representations and reports on their inclusion in 40 selected Ontario Public Libraries. We then compared these results with five socioeconomic factors for each library: size of population served, the size of the print collection, the size of the materials budget, the average total median household income and the last decade of provincial election results for the riding in which the main branch of …

Library is considered as an important input needed to implement school programs. In the light of the foregoing, this study examined the perceived influence of library services on students’ academic achievement in secondary schools. Non-probability techniques (stratified, purposive and convenience sampling techniques) were used to select 20 schools and its principals from three senatorial districts in Kwara State. The research design used combined both interview and observational checklist to collect relevant data for the study. Nvivo software (version 10) was used to analyse the data collected. If we put the students in charge, how would they organize their course materials? What would their preferences reflect about approaches to organization? In order to engage with these research questions, a usability study aligned with social constructivist pedagogy and participatory design is described and evaluated as an avenue for investigation. The study entailed a classroom activity in which an adapted card-sort (using Legos) challenged students to organize their course materials, including librarian-created research materials, for their Composition II course's Blackboard site.

This report discusses the addition of new collections including the migration of an academic journal, and the addition of two conferences. It also discusses the outreach efforts of the digital team and comments on the download metrics and how they indicate the demographics of users accessing Lesley scholarly and creative works. An infographic is included to provide a visual report of these metrics and to highlight the impact of Lesley scholarship.
