Transformative agreement (TA) is an umbrella term used to describe contracts between institutions and publishers intended to transform the current, primarily subscription-based, journal publishing model to a fully open access (OA) model. The idea originated in a 2015 white paper from the Max Planck Digital Library (MPDL), which posited that the current level of investment ($10 billion worldwide) is sufficient to fund the transformation to OA within existing publishing structures: a system in which 60% of the market is controlled by five publishers who maintain excessive profit margins.

The goal of the Basic Resources list is to make recommendations of books and other works to be included in pharmacy libraries, but not all titles are required to be purchased. Each pharmacy college has its own mission and its own program(s), and so each college’s library collection must reflect that mission and support the college’s program(s). “Looking from Yesterday” is the title of Dr. Milo A. Rediger’s 1970 address about the importance of Christian higher education during times of uncertainty and volatility. In this address, Rediger references the “Taylor concept,” which included symbols of oil (light) and the cross as a hopeful sign to the world. Despite its delivery more than 50 years ago, the theme of Rediger’s address still rings true today as we continue to seek to fulfill the mission of Taylor University during our own challenging times. A community is not just a place where people live, but an aggregation of folks brought together, whether by chance or design, who share like avocations. This article details frameworks for community engagement, and also identifies the discernible intersection between community engagement work and librarianship. The main focus is to look at these intersecting fields and establish what can be done to elevate a cohesive, homogeneous patron experience and embrace the larger community as a whole.

Library Involvement In Health Informatics Education For Health Professions Students And Practitioners: A Scoping Review., Deborah L Lauseng, Kristine M Alpi, Brenda M Linares, Elaine Sullo, Megan Von Isenburg

Objective: The purpose of this scoping review is to evaluate the extent of library or librarian involvement in informatics education in the health domain.

Methods: We searched eight databases from their inception to 2019 for reports of informatics educational activities for health professionals or health professions students that involved library staff or resources. Two reviewers independently screened all titles/abstracts (n=2,196) and resolved inclusion decisions by consensus. From the full text of the 36 papers that met the inclusion criteria, we extracted data on 41 educational activities.

Quick Pivots: Maintaining An Agile Approach To Outreach During An Evolving Crisis, Holly M. Surbaugh

As the University of New Mexico responded to the coronavirus pandemic during the spring and summer of 2020, the University Libraries piloted enhanced virtual outreach initiatives, including an online event series and scaled-up social media activity. The Summer of Sci Fi (SoSF) consisted of three Zoom-facilitated programs that offered fun activities designed to engage a socially distanced campus community while highlighting various library resources. Numerous “quick pivots” were necessary to accommodate unpredictable circumstances throughout the pilot implementation. This experience has demonstrated the advantages of approaching outreach with an agile stance, particularly during a crisis.

Archival spaces act as collective memory, and the need to preserve and protect those spaces is critical for understanding historical events. To illustrate the idea of archival space as a space of memory, this article looks at the Seneca Nation Settlement Act, which is more fully understood through the use and interpretation of archival materials.

The Library at the University of Dayton had incredible virtual programming success during the 2020-21 academic year with trendy information literacy topics and interactive content related to history, archives, special collections, art, and even a library tour. Most of the eight LibWizard programs this academic year were available to students for 30 days or less; they had over 7,221 total participants. Student feedback showed positive engagement with the module-based learning compared to other programs available. One student even said, "I LOVE the format of the library modules, so user-friendly and easy to follow!"

Peer review processes in scholarly publishing are often hidden behind layers of opacity, leaving authors—and even reviewers—with many questions about the process. Open peer review is one way to improve the practice. It can shorten the time between manuscript submission and publication, hold reviewers accountable for their work, make more apparent the hidden labor of reviewing and editing, allow for collaborative discourse between authors and reviewers, and more. Even with these benefits, open peer review is not widely accepted or understood. Few academic librarians have experienced it, and each implementation can be different; anything open is highly nuanced and contextual. …

Rebuilding Orcid Campus Outreach During A Pandemic, Christina M. Miskey

Since 2017, ORCID outreach at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas has stagnated due to insufficient staffing. A new librarian was tasked in early 2020 with facilitating new ORCID campus outreach and education with campus researchers. Simultaneously, the COVID-19 pandemic caused the university campus to shut down, which significantly limited the ability to forge relationships and outreach. Despite these challenges, the new librarian managed to rebuild campus partnerships, establish relationships with library colleagues, and develop an outreach plan that focused on creating virtual services such as workshops and on expanding digital resources such as LibGuides and tutorials to reach faculty …

[Purpose/significance]Due to various problems found in current government data quality,it is necessary to build an effective quality evaluation index for government data.[Method/process]Literature on government data were comprehensively analyzed,and the indicators for data quality evaluation were identified,and clustered into three dimensions.Then the weights of each dimension and indicator were determined with AHP method.[Result/conclusion]An evaluation indicator system for government data quality that includes three dimensions of data source,data set and data environment and 15 indicators including reliability,normalization,authenticity,accuracy,and adaptability has been constructed.Its usability was tested with the open government data of Shanghai and Zhejiang province. Diversifying the library workforce is challenging, with the graduation data of library and information science degrees not representing equity in demographics for diverse populations. Is this the reason for the lack of diversity among library staff or are recruitment practices not based on measurable performance standards? Both questions call upon the library and information science (LIS) profession to address diverse staffing issues to remedy these challenges.

Much research suggests that exposure to diverse books that feature the lived experiences of people with marginalized or underrepresented identities influences how children perceive their own value and the significance of others who do and do not look like them.
