This study investigated demographic characteristics as determinants of awareness level of e-resources among postgraduate students in public universities in Nigeria. The descriptive survey research method was used for the study. The population of this study comprised 23,070 postgraduate students enrolled in six public universities in southwest Nigeria. A convenience sampling technique was used to select 2,310 postgraduate students in the six public universities. A structured questionnaire was adapted for the study. Data collected were analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, mean, standard deviation, graphs, and chi square to test for relationship. The results showed that the level of awareness of …

This poster discusses a project to oversee the quality control and brief description of over 21,000 rare and unique items donated to the library in an unprocessed “backlog” spanning decades. The goals of this project include making the material discoverable and requestable by researchers, establishing labour benchmarks for material processing, and assigning an appropriate receiving library to items for inventory control in preparation for the cataloguing unit’s move to a new physical location.

Noise In The Library: Using Wearable Biomarker Devices To Measure Student Stress While Studying In The Library, Megan Frost

Many patrons come to the library seeking a quite environment, but some library spaces are noisy. In our study, we attempted to identify if the level of noise in a typical busy university library setting impacted the physiological stress of its patrons, as measured by wearable devices. We assessed participants’ heart rate variability (HRV) and skin temperature while they studied in different areas in the library. We found that there was no significant difference in patron stress levels while studying in loud vs quiet areas. This was even true for those patrons who came into the library hoping to be …

The goal of the following effort is to move towards a collection that all STEM students at Dartmouth College can see themselves reflected in; not just in books written about diversity in STEM, but in books written by diverse authors in STEM producing scholarship in their fields. An author identity diversity audit was conducted on 154 randomly sampled STEM monographs, individually selected and purchased in fiscal years 2020 - 2023. This research explores the adoption and use of digital reference services in federal university libraries in northern Nigeria. The study employed a mixed-method approach using exploratory research design. Both questionnaires and interviews were used for the collection of relevant data. Twenty (20) questionnaires were administered, and all retrieved successfully (100%). Meanwhile, questionnaires were analyzed in a tabular form to demonstrate how each objective of the study was achieved whereas thematic analysis was used for the analysis of the interview. We combine design-based implementation research with a pre-registered RCT to address a long-standing challenge in psychological science: How to use psychological principles to address real-world problems while designing and implementing interventions in the field. We posit this as a design methodology for optimizing the translation between psychological science and real-world applications. We tested the efficacy of an extensively co-designed version of a game-based rational number intervention, Fraction Ball, versus "business-as-usual" math instruction and physical education in a sample of 4th/5th grade Latine students (N=360). This paper introduces a theoretical framework for characterizing design processes as design games. Based on Collins and Ferguson's epistemic forms and games, the framework characterizes design processes as games played by designers to fill out design forms, which are general templates underlying specific design artifacts. We introduce our framework through games involved in human-centered design, describing for each the entry conditions, target form, constraints, and moves. We present reflections on our experience using a generative AI model in qualitative research, to illuminate the AI's contributions to our analytic process. Our analytic focus was a segment of classroom transcript, which captured a teacher introducing scientific theory-building practices to middle school students. We used a grounded theory approach to produce a fine-grained characterization of the teacher's talk moves during the lesson implementation. Our eventual goal is to build a more nuanced conceptualization of responsive teaching in the context of theory-building activities. This paper explores the design of computational toys and kits for young children (ages 4-7) as tools for learning integrated mathematical, spatial, and computational thinking concepts. Specifically, we examine how the design features of the toys and kits represent the concepts of rotation on a point and spatial orientation of the agent. We examine toys and kits sold commercially, developed through research, and used in early childhood classrooms. Our findings indicate that the mathematical and spatial concepts are overlooked in some designs.
