Provosts and librarians share a common goal of needing to measure library activity in such a way that appropriately conveys how it contributes to the institution’s campus initiatives and strategic planning. The goal of this research was to determine how best to analyze these activities through agreed upon metrics and preferred communication styles. By combining the two aspects of analytical metrics and communication methods, this research would provide a common ground that both provosts and librarians could build upon for the future growth and development of the library.

The Phillips Memorial Library at Providence College used OCLC’s GreenGlass for Serials tool to facilitate an extensive weeding of the bound periodicals collection. This article covers the project’s goals, planning, implementation, results, and evaluation. It also gives future plans for weeding our closed runs periodical collection.

This paper lays out the conceptual groundwork for a long-term project examining ethical issues raised when addressing the value of knowledge to a knowledge economy. The project includes a series of papers on specific topics that interrelate to the subjects of knowledge, ethics and organizations. While some of the planned articles for the project will have a practical focus, others, such as this one, will be conceptual in nature. This study explored the multifaceted dynamics affecting the academic performance of high-achieving elementary students on end-of-year reading exams. It examines the influences of gender, age, genre preferences, the frequency of book borrowing, and language modality of instruction, all within the context of the elementary school library. Methodologically, the study employs a quantitative correlational approach. The data source comprises students' demographics, class assignments, end-of-year reading scores, and library patron records. This presentation will provide sample artificial intelligence policy language from various higher education institutions and academic libraries. Topics covered will include the acceptable use of AI in the classroom, the role of faculty in making AI-related decisions, syllabus statements, AI use and detection, AI literacy, and library policies regarding AI. Participants will be able to compare and contrast policies to help them develop their own policies that work for their unique organization.

This Qualtrics-based survey was used to explore the AI-related policies of LIS journals and various journal support mechanisms about AI (e.g., AI detection tools, peer reviewer guidelines, copyediting processes, and more), as well as EIC perspectives and attitudes toward generative AI within the context of scholarly publishing. In early summer 2024, researchers shared the survey with select top-tier journal editors in the library science field. Results from this survey will be published in the article “Artificial Intelligence and LIS Publishing: A Survey of Journal Editors” in Library Trends in 2025 (Volume 73). The American Library Association provides a form for librarians to share challenges to library materials for the purposes of gathering data and providing support. In the face of increasing challenges to library materials, some states have also developed local procedures for gathering information and providing local support. In 2023, the presenters distributed a survey to gather information from states, territories, and tribal nations that do not publicly share their procedures to document efforts. This presentation will share the preliminary survey results showing differences across entities, lessons learned, and areas for future research.

As two female librarians who have worked in digital scholarship at research institutions, we have observed how patriarchal gender norms can influence the way teams operate and the toxic impact they have on librarians. In this chapter, we will identify points of impact and suggest a feminist approach, which relies on maintenance and care, to further equity in the subfield of digital scholarship within academic libraries.

A Two-Phase Study Examining Graduate Library Student Knowledge Gains And Perceptions Of Information Literacy Modules, Holly S. Hebert, Karen V. Nourse, Kevin S. Krahenbuhl

Journal of Graduate Librarianship

This paper reports the results of a two-phase study examining the effectiveness of a set of five online learning modules in increasing student understanding of information literacy topics. The modules were deployed within the foundational class of an online Master of Library Science program. Using Qualtrics-based surveys, Phase 1 assessed 15 students for their possible knowledge gains as well as their perceptions of their experiences with the instructional content. Through a combination of statistical and qualitative analysis, the researchers found modest knowledge gains as well as positive student perceptions of their instruction.
