This report lists all periodicals subscribed to in 2009 through EBSCO Subscription Services by the University Libraries, University of Rhode Island. This report analyzes prices over a five-year period. Information provided includes title, frequency, price in each of the last five years, and percent changes in price over five years. The list is sorted by LC Classification to better show the price changes in each discipline/subject area. The associated spreadsheet includes additional information such as ISSN, Library of Congress Classification number, country of origin, publisher name, and title format (print or online). Statistics on the total number of full text downloads from the DigitalCommons@University of Rhode Island institutional repository for 2008-2009. Data are provided monthly on the number of full text downloads by collection and document, and on the number of referrals by domain and country. Dissertations are included in the statistics. Digital Commons statistics are COUNTER-compliant, with downloads from robots and automated processes filtered out.

Statistics on the total number of "Browse Searches," "Titles Searches," and "Other Searches" of Serials Solutions tools at the University of Rhode Island Libraries by month for 2008-2009. Shows how many times the A-Z full text electronic journal list (at http://zu4tq4pb5v.search.serialssolutions.com/) was browsed by alphabet or subject and searched by journal title or ISSN. Also indicates how many Serials Solutions searches originated from OpenURL links ("360 Link") and the number of clicks from the 856 field of Serials Solutions-generated MARC records ("360 MARC Updates").

Monthly productivity statistics for Monographic Acquisitions and Copy Cataloging (MACC) Unit, University Library, University of Rhode Island. Data for fiscal year include bibliographic, item, and order records created, updated, and deleted by the MACC Unit in the HELIN integrated library system.

These statistics were first collected in 2001/02 to illustrate that, despite the fact that the number of books ordered was decreasing, staff were spending more of their time on database maintenance. After this situation was documented for seven years, it was felt that gathering these numbers was no longer necessary. Therefore, 2008/09 is the last year for which these …

Moderated by Maria Collins of North Carolina State University, discussion at this open forum on the future of library systems touched on open-source library systems, cloud computing, new initiatives by the Open Library Environment (OLE) Project and OCLC, and desired characteristics of future integrated library systems. Most participants had limited experience with next-generation library systems and attended the open forum with the desire to broaden their understanding, although some were exposed to or had worked with the open-source discovery tool VuFind, the OLE Project, WorldCat Local, and the OCLC Web-scale service. Membership: $12,705. Grand total: $85,559.96.

Refworks Usage Statistics 2008-2009

RefWorks is a subscription-based, online software product that helps researchers save, organize, and format bibliographic citations. This report provides monthly statistics on the usage of RefWorks by the URI community for 2008-2009. Data provided include total monthly users, new users, repeat users, total sessions per month, average sessions per user, total references added, and average number of references added per user. Also provided is an annual "snapshot" of the total number of references and registered users, broken down by self-identified departmental affiliation and type (undergrad, grad, faculty, etc.).

Technological change is inevitable, and when the opportunity arose at the University of Rhode Island to have input into the choice of a new Course Management System, two librarians sat in on the committee’s meetings, testing tools and offering opinions. When the committee unanimously recommended going with Sakai, an open source CMS, the door was opened to run a class in the new system, which would eventually replace WebCT across campus.

Fiscal close report produced by the Acquisitions module of the University of Rhode Island's Innovative Interfaces Millennium integrated library system.

Indicates total spending on library materials from July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009.

Specifically, provides appropriations, final expenditures, and encumbrances for monographs by fund code, including approval plan orders, firm orders, standing orders.

Also provides expenditures for serials and other subscriptions by fund code.

This year's data does not include expenditures from endowment funds.

Other years are found in Digital Commons@URI as supplementary files to the annual report of the library acquisitions department.

A review of the course descriptions for the twelve ALA-accredited Library and Information Graduate Schools in the southeastern states identified that the majority offer only one or two elective course related to library instruction (see appendix). These courses cover topics such as curriculum design, learning theory, best practices for teaching, and information literacy strategies. Some graduate program curriculums do not offer specific courses in library instruction, instead including it as a topic in a broader course such as Academic Libraries or in conjunction with a school media specialty.
