This article provides an introduction for library leaders at all levels to support equitable conditions for joy in the workplace, as well as for anyone who wants to develop their personal practice of joy through lessons discovered in popular, academic, and professional writing and multimedia. Joy has a place in contemporary libraries’ conversations about burnout, vocational awe, and care. The article begins with a guide to the annotated bibliography which explores five themes: defining joy, finding individual joy, work and organizational joy, empowering change with joy, and joy-adjacent emotions. Using Ifms To Pay For Lost Items, J. Silvia Cho

In this presentation, I discuss using OCLC's IFMs (Interlibrary Loan Fee Management) to pay invoices for lost and damaged items borrowed via interlibrary loan. After starting with a discussion of the benefits and challenges of this method, I will share examples showing the process and how to check results. Using IFMs to pay invoices can help alleviate the time and transactional burdens of making such payments for interlibrary loan departments.

This paper presents the development of a novel orchestration tool that predicts collaborative problem-solving (CPS) behaviors of undergraduate engineering groups and investigates the use of that tool by instructors. We explore the impact of receiving real-time, machine-learning, model-based prompts on 1) instructors' orchestration strategies, which are strategies instructors use to manage and facilitate collaborative activities, and 2) groups' participation, including how groups are engaged in CPS activities. The orchestration tool is a dashboard that notifies instructors of–and advises them on–monitoring and intervening with groups who may need collaborative support and guidance. Recent fears of data capitalism and colonialism often argue using implicit assumptions about cybernetic technology’s ability to automate data about culture. As such, the level of data granularity made possible by cybernetic engineering can be used to dominate society and culture. Here we unpack these implicit assumptions about the datafication of culture through memes, which both act as cultural data and cultural memory. Using Alexander Galloway’s critical method of protocological analysis and descriptions of media tactics, we respond to fears of cybernetic domination. Preprint articles are available on servers, such as arXiv and ChemRxiv, at no-cost to benefit the movement toward open access of research. However, the use of preprint research articles as a reference source in academia is not heavily documented. To examine if researchers are utilizing preprint articles, this paper examines citation trends in the dissertations of chemistry and physics PhD candidates who studied at four University Centers in the State University Of New York system (SUNY). Using citation analysis methodology, references cited in PhD dissertations published between 2018–2021 were analyzed. Key findings showed that PhD candidate authors cited preprint articles …

This article describes the variety of volunteers received at Brown Library of Abilene Christian University and the tasks that they perform. One unavoidable element of instruction for business librarians is what I call the “database show and tell” – when an instructor wants you to demonstrate resources that help students complete an assignment. Too often it ends up being “here’s Database X and this is what you should use it for.
