Connecticut Legal Research is part of a series of guides for legal researchers in individual states. The second edition of the series’ Connecticut volume is completely revised from the first edition and has different authors. The authors have the goal of explaining the sources of Connecticut law and the process of conducting legal research effectively, not only in the context of Connecticut, but more generally with federal and national resources. They succeed in that goal, giving detailed information about Connecticut law and resources for research, as well as extensive discussion of the legal research process overall.

Methods and tools vary, but teachers, librarians, and parents can all agree that reading is a fundamental skill their students need. However, students are sometimes told to limit their use of audiobooks in favor of reading with their eyes. Proposed regulations for alcohol advertising prevent beverage companies from targeting people under the legal drinking age. However, similar regulations for alcohol alternative beverages are less explored, which could allow alcohol alternative products to create awareness for alcoholic beverages among youth. Alcohol alternatives beverages, including no-alcohol and low-alcohol products, are increasing in popularity and can function as compliments to alcoholic products to decrease the total alcohol volume consumed or as substitutes for alcoholic products. Interdisciplinary Research Collaboration In Digital History: Impact Of Classification On The Evaluation Of Publications, Papatsara Arsa

The interdisciplinary nature of digital history presents challenges in retrieving and evaluating publications within scholarly communities. This research investigates the impact of classification on the evaluation of digital history research, collaboration patterns, and barriers to interdisciplinary collaboration. The study employs a scoping review of 109 publications from academic online databases and interviews with fifteen experts from eleven countries. Findings reveal that digital history can be identified within the academic landscape through distinct characteristics of scholarly communication, including publication venues, researcher affiliations, natural and controlled vocabularies, information-seeking behaviors, and publication practices. The study employs a pragmatist perspective, analyzing metadata to conceptualize …

We do not know how many trans and gender diverse people work in libraries in the United States. Like the US Census, the American Library Association’s demographic survey of its members (which is by no means a complete or accurate representation of the profession) asks if respondents are male or female (Rosa & Henke, 2017). In addition to erasing anybody who is not one of these two things, this question does not provide information on whether respondents are trans or gender diverse. Robert M. Johnson was an African American expatriate who had been enslaved for 24 years in Lexington, KY, to Dorothea D. Christian and her husband the Rev. James Fishback. Johnson escaped and gained his freedom sometime after 1841, thereafter making his way to Canada, where he stayed for several years before leaving North America to become a medical student in Edinburgh, Scotland, and a medical doctor in Sheffield, England.

Inclusiveness and honoring different cultures that reflect our patrons has been discussed in many different venues in the last few years. The staff of the Brigham Young University Library recognized the need for our metadata to demonstrate the commitment we have to honor others and to create a community of belonging. The staff also recognized that a policy would provide a roadmap for how to embark on fixing legacy metadata and how to move forward in creating metadata that reflects our core values in the library and at the university. Libraries, as third spaces that provide guidance, education, and access to information resources, are facing a wide range of challenges in light of increasing public access and interest in generative AI. Third spaces are spaces separate from work and home where a wide variety of individuals normally seek conversation and community. Academic libraries serve generative AI users with a variety of research needs and proficiencies, connecting users with institutional policy and guidance on the use of generative AI while supporting inquiry into generative AI tools as another type of information resource. Webster Parish Library, 1929-1935 : A Rosenwald Demonstration Library, Suzanne Marie Stauffer

In 1929 the Julius Rosenwald Fund instituted its County Demonstration Library program of matching grants to promote public library service to Blacks in the South. By the end of the program, total circulation in the demonstration counties averaged 5.2 per capita, with circulation among Blacks more than twice what it had been the previous year. One such segregated library system was established in Webster Parish Louisiana with the support of the State Library Commission. The central white library and eight branches opened on October 4, 1929. The central Black library and four branches opened a short time later. The Library …

The paper shares the strategies the Consortium of Uganda University Libraries (CUUL) adopted to provide access to electronic resources to its member libraries in COVID-19 pandemic era. It examines the challenges, opportunities COVID-19 brought and how CUUL managed to deliver its mandate during the pandemic. The study used a qualitative research approach and a survey research design. A structured online interview data collection tool was employed to collect the required information from the CUUL executive committee members and the electronic resources functional committee. Regarded as a major cultural and industrial center, Detroit is known for its contributions to art, architecture, design, and music, which led to its "Motown" nickname, in addition to its ties to the birth of the auto industry, which brought it the nickname of "Motor City." Despite hosting several higher learning institutions and a national research university, Detroit has been facing a continued decline of its adult literacy rates that amount to 47.00%, meaning that half of the City's population are functionally illiterate. The American Library Association provides a form for librarians to share challenges to library materials for the purposes of gathering data and providing support. In the face of increasing challenges to library materials, some states have also developed local procedures for gathering information and providing local support. In 2023, the presenters distributed a survey to gather information from states, territories, and tribal nations that do not publicly share their procedures to document efforts. This presentation will share the preliminary survey results showing differences across entities, lessons learned, and areas for future research.
