Open access publishing is continuing to grow as funders such as cOAlition S, National Institutes of Health, and the White House implement mandates and requirements that publicly funded research be made immediately available for public consumption. Publishers have adopted open access as a business model through transformative agreements that combine subscription and publishing fees. However, it is unclear whether these agreements are beneficial for libraries. This article discusses a project by the University of Kentucky Libraries to gather and analyze open access publication data to aid in the evaluation of transformative agreement proposals. Librarianship has long been regarded as a service-oriented profession, compared with fields such as social work, teaching, nursing, and others with a high degree of emotional labor. The roots of this run deep, perhaps as far as Dewey, who spoke of a “library spirit,” which represented an extreme commitment to patron service. Even before the COVID-19 pandemic drove most users online, chat was establishing itself as a core service for asking library-related questions of many types, from basic directional and reference to research queries of a more sophisticated nature. This investigation seeks to provide insight into how academic libraries are seen not only as a source of library assistance, but also as a means of filling an information gap on a wider subject: the university campus at large. The program gathers data through usability testing of the library's website and discovery layer, as well as survey questions about users' experiences with library services. [Purpose/significance]In today's increasingly important personal information protection, the compliance evaluation study of social media privacy policies in China is conducted to provide reference for improving social media privacy policies and strengthening personal information protection. [Method/processes]The article selects 28 commonly used social media and comparatively analyzed their privacy policy texts based on LDA topic model, completeness evaluation and reading sense analysis. [Result/conclusion]It is found that with the introduction of relevant information protection laws, social media has made positive progress in privacy protection and information security, but there existed room for further improvement in terms of policy integrity, protection of special groups …

[Purpose/significance]In order to make full use of the value of text dependent syntactic information and prior emotion knowledge in emotion analysis， a semantic enhanced online healthy community emotion analysis model was proposed. [Method/process]Firstly， feature vectors for pre-processed online health community data are generated by Word2Vec and BERT; then local and global information of online review text are extracted using TextCNN and BiLSTM respectively based on dual-channel idea; then sentiment knowledge and dependency grammar information are merged in graph attention networks for semantic enhancement; finally， dual-channel features are fused and perform online health community sentiment classification in fully connected layer. [Purpose/significance]Intangible cultural heritage is an important component of human civilization, which is of great significance for protecting and promoting national spirit, enhancing national identity and cohesion. [Method/process]This paper explores how to utilize the advantages of  AIGC, combined with traditional deep learning methods, then construct a comprehensive and efficient map of intangible cultural heritage knowledge. [Result/conclusion]In the classification study of intangible cultural heritage projects, the fine-tuned Baihuan-7B has the best effect, with an macro-F1 value of 0.7688. The article discusses the transformative impact of generative AI large language models (LLMs) on legal research. Callister explores how these AI models, despite their current imperfections, are poised to shift the cognitive (or trusted) authority within the legal profession. He attributes this shift to the ease with which AI processes vast amounts of legal information and the anthropomorphic design of LLMs, which fosters trust among users. Callister introduces the concept of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), explaining how AI platforms integrate legal texts into their responses, enhancing their reliability over purely generative models. As academic librarians become aware of the challenges expensive textbooks pose to student success, they increasingly collaborate to provide zero-cost access to required course materials. Librarians at Illinois State University initiated a program to license e-books assigned in courses, surveying students and faculty in participating courses regarding their perspectives on textbook affordability and their experiences with the provided e-books. Student participants reported overwhelmingly positive responses and identified several ways in which the e-books enhanced their experience in the course. The findings suggest that providing assigned materials as e-books contributes to students’ engagement as learners and their academic success within courses.

Isabella Beeton, creator of the iconic domestic manual Beeton’s Book of Household Management, died suddenly in 1865, just before her twenty-ninth birthday. Her popular book survived to codify stereotypical Victorian female ideals. Yet the “Mrs Beeton” mythos camouflages a remarkable talent: far from domestic drudgery, Beeton maintained a vibrant career as a writer and editor at the Englishwoman’s Domestic Magazine (EDM), traveling widely to research the latest fashions and laboring behind the scenes to ensure the magazine’s success.
