Literature Review On Emergency Response Information Sharing Of Domestic Incidents In Recent Ten Years, Xinhua Liang, Yang Zhao
Journal of Scientific Information Research
[Purpose/significance]Complex and diverse emergencies have put forward new requirements for emergency response, and multi-party collaboration has become an inevitable trend of emergency response.Information sharing is the basis of collaborative emergency response, which provides conditions for improving the speed of emergency response and reducing the hazards of emergencies.[Method/process]This paper analyzes the relevant literature in the field of 2010-2020 domestic emergency response information sharing by means of Bibliometrics, summarizes the time distribution, journal distribution and research hotspots of research papers on emergency response information sharing, and reviews the current research topics of information sharing in the process of emergency response from five aspects:participants, information resources, technologies and methods, influencing …

Analysis On The Dynamic Evolution Path Of Iinternational Public Health Emergency Research Topics In The Past 30 Years, Ting Zhai, Jing Liu, Qian Zhang
Journal of Scientific Information Research
[Purpose/Significance]The COVID-19 epidemic has once again made people realize the great threat of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases to human beings. However, the academic community still lacks the understanding of the development of soft science in the field of public health emergencies and its latest research hotspots.[Methods/Process]Focusing on the social science field, this study divided the period of SARS epidemic and the six public health emergencies of international concern (PHEIC) declared by the WHO,and used SciMAT to analyze the dynamic evolution path of the research topics in the literature on public health emergencies based on the WoS database.[Results/Conclusion]The research on public health emergencies …

A Bibliometric Study On Highly Cited Papers In The Field Of Biomimetics, Ximei Tian, Runmao Wang
Journal of Scientific Information Research
[Purpose/significance]The bibliometric study on highly cited papers in biomimetics has been carried out in the current paper to reveal the international research status of biomimetics,to track the latest research hotspots of the field, and explore the future development trend of the discipline,so as to provide decision-making reference for the government to develop biomimetics research and education.[Method/process]Based on the Web of Science database, the highly cited papers in biomimetics from 2000 to 2019 have been selected as samples, and the bibliometric methods combined with CiteSpace visualization software have been applied to evaluate the research level of different countries and universities, and demonstrate the paper distribution …

Inequitable Impacts Of Textbook Costs At A Small, Private College: Results From A Textbook Survey At Gettysburg College, Sarah Appedu, Mary Elmquist, Janelle Wertzberger, Sharon K. Birch
Inequitable Impacts Of Textbook Costs At A Small, Private College: Results From A Textbook Survey At Gettysburg College, Sarah Appedu, Mary Elmquist, Janelle Wertzberger, Sharon K. Birch
All Musselman Library Staff Works
Recognizing that higher education settings vary considerably, librarians at Gettysburg College sought to better understand textbook spending behaviors and the effects of costs on our students. We adapted the Florida Virtual Campus 2016 Student Textbook and Course Materials Survey to suit the context of our small, private, liberal arts college. Most students spent $300 in Fall 2019. Financial aid awards did not cover the cost of required books and course materials for most students receiving aid. Negative effects were more pronounced for first-generation students and Pell Grant recipients, who were more likely to not purchase required books, to not register …

Exploring Open Access Practices, Attitudes, And Policies In Academic Libraries, Rachel E. Scott, Caitlin Harrington, Ana Dubnjakovic
Faculty and Staff Publications – Milner Library
This article reports the results of a 2019 survey of academic librarians that investigated their attitudes, practices, and policies regarding open access (OA). This study asks if academic librarians write policies to ensure that they approach OA intentionally and systematically across all library services. The results indicate that, though librarians report favorable beliefs about OA and integrating OA into technical and public services, they seldom create OA policies.

The Library Never Closes: Assessing Resources And Services After A Crisis, Matthew J. Jabaily, Tabatha Farney, Caitlin Harrington, Rachel E. Scott
Faculty and Staff Publications – Milner Library
There are different ways to interpret the statement, “the library never closes.” One interpretation is that the library as a place and a building is so vital to a university that it cannot close under any circumstances. At the University of Memphis (UM), one of the universities included in this study, the McWherter library did not close, even in March 2020 when fear and uncertainty around the COVID-19 pandemic were at their height. The University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) and Illinois State University (ISU), the other two institutions included in this study, closed their buildings in March and stayed …

Developing Entrepreneurial Potential In Information Science Students: A Critical Review Of Lis Training Programs In Kenya, Arnold Mwanzu, Dickens Rodriguez Wendo
Libraries
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the state of entrepreneurial education in library and information science programs and the influence that entrepreneurial education has on LIS students. The study adopted a descriptive research design approach. Both primary and secondary data was collected through questionnaires, observation and data review. The study population comprised of diploma and undergraduate students as well as alumni of LIS. The research data was analyzed through descriptive statistics and the results presented in tables. The findings showed that only basic entrepreneurship education was offered in LIS programs and not incorporated across all the years of …

Measuring Use Of The Academic Print Reference Collection, Jennifer Putnam Davis
Measuring Use Of The Academic Print Reference Collection, Jennifer Putnam Davis
Georgia Library Quarterly
Level of use is a key factor in print reference collection development, but often this is determined by anecdotal observation rather than empirical measures. This is evident by the lack of use studies available in the literature. Yet there is a large presence of literature on weeding the print reference collection to repurpose its space. Managing this collection without assessing use can have negative impacts on both library staff and library users. This article presents a review of the available literature on use studies of print reference collections in academic libraries. Methodology and results of the studies are discussed.

Critical Data Literacy: Addressing Race As A Variable In A Preclinical Medical Education Session, Stacy Brody, Susan Koenig
Himmelfarb Library Faculty Posters and Presentations
At the Himmelfarb Health Sciences Library, librarians conduct instruction sessions on various aspects of evidencebased medicine for first- and second-year medical students. One of these sessions, the Chest Pain Formative Observed Simulated Clinical Experience (FOSCE), introduces the Framingham Study, later cohort studies, and the Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease (ASCVD) Risk Calculator to first-year medical students. This calculator includes race as an input and over or underestimates risk for certain groups. This session previously mentioned the need to diversify study populations and described the evolution of the algorithm, but it did not highlight these as critical issues for discussion. Beyond noting this …

Researcher profile systems are web-based tools which attempt to capture the scholarly output of a researcher. Some tools such as Google Scholar profiles and ORCiDs are opt-in systems that researchers must actively create and cultivate. Others such as the Scopus author profile are algorithmically generated and must be claimed by an author and checked for accuracy.
These profiles continue to grow in importance as a way for fellow researchers, potential employers, and possible collaborators to learn about a researcher’s scholarship. Therefore, it’s important for researchers to maintain these profiles and to ensure that they are accurate and complete.

Faculty Publications and Presentations
This poster will show how one academic library employed virtual research appointments as part of the library’s response to COVID-19. Specific data points highlight student demographics, number of appointments, time spent per meeting, how usage coincided with the semester schedule, and impact of link location on service availability. The poster also identifies best practices, adjustments made since implementation, and results of initial assessment. The objective of this poster is to show how other libraries can take a similar approach to adapting and maintaining services for a virtual environment.
