This presentation discusses an evolution of our staffing model that revived our library’s Twitter account, beginning with creating a sustainable workflow to allow for more engaging content by leveraging the expertise and creativity of front line user experience staff. We’ll discuss the entire evolution from having a single librarian generating content to this team-based approach, discuss missteps, and share the positive outcomes. Lastly, we’ll discuss meaningful assessment to ensure the identifying and transmitting of key messages frequently and effectively, and sustainable expansion into new social media platforms.

This poster session will discuss how a collaborative virtual art exhibit between the Art Department and Library Services showcased distance learners’ work. Virtual art exhibits meet many needs and goals. These exhibits can be free or lower cost than a traditional art exhibit, reach more individuals as all they need is an internet connection, and provide a lower barrier to displaying one’s artwork. At this academic institution, the goals of a virtual art exhibit are the building of students’ portfolios and creating a deeper campus connection with distance learners. A group of academic librarians working in community and four-year colleges, graduate programs and other settings present strategies and approaches for serving diverse multilingual populations. Multilingual students improve their awareness and understanding of United States academic libraries and higher education when librarians are cognizant of their needs. Encounters can occur at the research desk, in classroom instruction, and during research consultations. Also included are tips on how academic librarians can assist multilingual and international students, including how to improve communication. Modern academic library shelves are no longer limited to books and media—collections today include “unicorns,” which we define as unique items such as DSLR cameras, VR headsets, puppets, modeling kits—even skeletons and drones. Supporting students’ ever-changing curricular and research needs requires constant creativity, problem solving, and technology expertise.

Partnerships across campus ensure close attention to the nuances of university curriculum. For Access Services, curating robust physical reserve collections involves purchasing considerations, special shelving and packaging, customized loan periods, reservation systems, and careful maintenance of high-use, delicate items.

Since 2015, the UK Libraries Special Collections Research Center (UK SCRC) has offered “archives basics” workshops for community-based organizations in central Kentucky. These workshops, titled “History Allies: Helping Protect Your Past,” are free and open to the public and often hosted in partnership with area public libraries. Attendees have been from African American churches, LGBTQIA organizations, genealogical groups, museums, and more. Topics include the historical value of organizational records, selecting records for permanent retention, inventorying and storing physical and digital records, providing access to researchers, managing volunteers and volunteer projects, digitization methods and standards, and outreach and exhibits. In order to provide culturally responsive instruction to all students, school library professionals need to recognize the various discourses around cultural competence that exist in the field of library and information science (LIS) and understand the broader meanings that are attached to these discourses. This study presents an evaluation of the underlying ideologies that are embedded in the textual responses of a group of LIS students reporting on their perceived levels of cultural competence preparation.

The Library Ambassador Program hires approximately 25 undergraduate students each fall and provides them with two semesters of information literacy and research skills instruction before deploying them across campus to help students with their research. As part of their training, instructors use various game-playing and active learning strategies in the classroom including: a card game designed to teach players about databases and how they function, group problem-solving exercises, a card game intended to teach players how to evaluate sources of information, and a roleplaying activity meant to prepare ambassadors for experiences in helping students. At a large Midwestern university, librarians work closely with an annual undergraduate agricultural innovation competition to guide students through the process of conducting market research and assessing patentability. In 2018, the authors conducted an exploratory study using focus groups of students who had participated in that year’s competition in order to learn how students find and use information in a competition setting, to evaluate the impact of library support on the students’ success, and inform further assessment activities. The paper presents librarians’ attitudes toward information technology, their level of knowledge in IT, and their relationship with each other. Secondary data was collected through review of the relevant literature. Primary data was collected through a questionnaire survey of 244 librarians of libraries in Pakistan. The study revealed that awareness of the potential of IT, recency of attaining professional qualifications, and knowledge in IT had a significant relationship with librarians’ attitudes. The study also revealed that librarians’ level of knowledge in technology is a good predictor of their attitude toward application of information technology in libraries. Based on the findings, …

Federal research and development expenditures averaged about $135 billion annually for fiscal years 2015 to 2017. The survey method was adapted for this study and a self-administered questionnaire was used as main data collection tool. This study aimed to assess the value of Korean school library research by comparing Korean and international research on school libraries. To conduct this research, records of international papers indexed by Scopus and domestic papers indexed by the Korean Citation Index (KCI) on school libraries were downloaded. These records were analyzed and compared in terms of publication trends, journals, and author keywords. Approximately, four Korean LIS journals collectively published 39% more papers than the international journals indexed by Scopus, suggesting the substantial contributions made by Korean researchonschool libraries.
