How do students’ information literacy skills change over the course of their undergraduate education? We assume or at least hope they will improve. But do they? And if so, by how much? At the University of the Pacific, we are using the SAILS (Standardized Assessment of Information Literacy Skills) Test to assess undergraduate students’ information literacy skills and to see how they have changed over time. The SAILS Test is a multiple-choice test that has been used by more than 200 universities across the world. Open Access Archives In The Music Classroom; Examining Primary Sources And Information Privilege, Taylor Greene
Library Presentations, Posters, and Audiovisual Materials

This discussion takes inspiration from the “Information Has Value” frame from the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education, specifically related to the knowledge practice to “recognize issues of access or lack of access to information sources” and the disposition to “examine their own information privilege.”
In class, students …

Basically the world has changed and technology is the primary driver. The legal industry has changed and yet many lawyers still brag about their lack of technology skills. These skills are not advanced programming and software design. I am talking about the competent use of basic office applications. Service providers like RocketLawyer and LegalZoom prepare wills, contracts and articles of incorporation. It’s estimated that these providers are now at least an $8 billion industry. People that used to hire local attorneys are now using these services. Potential clients are also using online service to find and evaluate lawyers. The days …

Review Of Reclaiming Indigenous Research In Higher Education, Rose Buchanan
Journal of Contemporary Archival Studies
Reclaiming Indigenous Research in Higher Education challenges basic assumptions of Western methodologies by demonstrating the value of Indigenous approaches to social scientific research. Contributors argue that Western institutions have long marginalized Indigenous perspectives in higher education, overlooking or outright dismissing the unique experiences of Indigenous students as well as the efforts of Indigenous researchers to explore and understand them. This volume is a necessary read for anyone wanting to promote greater diversity and inclusion in the academy and in supporting institutions like archives.

In this active-learning session, attendees will participate in several condensed lessons designed to challenge their worldview in order to facilitate the uncovering of unknown biases. At the same time, they will learn pedagogical …

This paper explores the potential for Snapchat to act as an advocacy tool for academic librarians. Snapchat is a social media app that allows users to send videos, drawings, images, and more. The researcher, a User Engagement Librarian at an academic library, was curious about the potential to use Snapchat as an advocacy tool, a tool to gauge current library attitudes, stereotypes, and perceptions, and an opportunity for feedback. In an attempt to challenge the assumptions about academic librarianship, the author used the app to engage with followers through a series of shared videos and images depicting a variety of …

Issues And Prospects Of Knowledge Sharing In Academic Libraries, Ifeoma Ajie
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
In recent years it has been acknowledged that the practice of knowledge management can play an important role to ensure an organisation’s competitive edge within an industry. This paper gives an overview of knowledge sharing in academic libraries. Based on the review of critical literatures by the authors, they infer that knowledge sharing in academic libraries can be influenced by motivators and de-motivators. Activities of knowledge sharing in academic libraries may be on organization level or individual level. Knowledge sharing at both levels is critical to the success or failure of knowledge management inside and outside the academic libraries. The …
