Emory University’S Changing Atlanta Exhibit: Documenting Local History Through Archives, W. Michael Camp
Georgia Library Quarterly
This article discusses the Changing Atlanta exhibit recently on display at Emory University to demonstrate how exhibits can spur greater public engagement with archives and archival materials. The exhibit used archival collections to illuminate the stories of individuals and groups who participated in the city of Atlanta’s expansion in the second half of the twentieth century. This article discusses the historical content of the exhibit itself alongside the opportunities for outreach generated by the exhibit.

Academic Library As Learning Space And As Collection: A Learning Commons' Effects On Collections And Related Resources And Services, Deeann Allison, Erica Defrain, Brianna D. Hitt, David C. Tyler
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries: Faculty Publications
A tremendous amount has been written about the library as a learning space and about this model's two most popular outgrowths, the information commons and the learning commons. Little to nothing, however, has been written about how reshaping an academic/research library and repurposing library space affects the library as a collection, its resources, and its collections-related services. This study looks at the immediate impact of opening a learning commons in an academic/research library on circulation, document delivery and interlibrary loan requests for returnables, and on- and off-campus database accesses at one institution.
Additional tables and statistical analysis are contained in …

Partnering For Social Justice: Msw Interns In Public Libraries, Sarah C. Johnson
Partnering For Social Justice: Msw Interns In Public Libraries, Sarah C. Johnson
Publications and Research
While the collaborative trend among professional social workers and librarians continues to grow, literature about the utilization of student social workers partnering with libraries is non-existent. Over 64,000 students are currently enrolled in M.S.W. programs through the United States and nearly all are required to complete approximately 900 hours of fieldwork. Such students provide the skills, knowledge, and values that can help take diversity in public libraries to the next level. Public librarians play a critical role in advocating for social justice and change. By reaching out to MSW programs, they invite budding social workers to help advance tolerance for …

You have an exhibit theme, photographs selected, and an opening date, now you just need to plan and build the actual exhibit. This can be a daunting challenge for the first-time exhibit builder, but there is hope. With a little patience, proper equipment, and supplies, an exhibit can take shape and provide another avenue to promote your collections.

Investigation Of Factors That Influence Public Librarians’ Social Media Use For Marketing Purposes: An Adoption Of The Technology Acceptance Model And Theory Of Planned Behavior, Soohyung Joo, Namjoo Choi, Lindsey M. Harper
Information Science Faculty Publications
This study aims to explore multiple factors that are associated with social media use by public librarians for marketing purposes. Based on the technology acceptance model and theory of planned behavior, the effects of five factors—usefulness, ease of use, attitude, subjective norms, and behavioral control—on social media use intention were examined. A survey was conducted, and 462 valid responses were collected from public librarians across the United States. The findings revealed that all five factors have a significant impact on librarians’ intention to engage in social media activities for library marketing. Perceived behavioral control factors were the most influential on …

The Goldilocks Method: Demonstrating Your Value In Small, Medium, And Large Bites, Heather J. Martin
The Goldilocks Method: Demonstrating Your Value In Small, Medium, And Large Bites, Heather J. Martin
Books, Presentations, Posters, Etc.
Background: In an era of financial constraint hospital libraries are facing closer scrutiny and must prove their value in order to survive. Leadership at a large health system library found the traditional written annual report lacked the impact needed to capture the attention and the imagination of administration. Taking different approaches over the years, this library has found a solution that is “just right”, creating three very different documents – small, medium, and large – to demonstrate its worth.
Description: Library leadership moved away from the traditional written annual report toward a one-page infographic that depicted the library’s scope, scale, …

The Claude Henry Neuffer Diaries: The Story Of A Signal Corps Serviceman In The China-Burma-India Theater Of Wwii, Kyle Brady Henderson
Senior Theses
This senior thesis project involved working with an unprocessed collection from the Manuscripts Collection of the South Caroliniana Library. The collection (which mainly consists of two diary volumes) documents Claude Henry Neuffer’s service in the China-Burma-India Theater during World War II. The goal of this thesis was to aid in the processing and digitization of this collection through the creation of full transcripts, a map, and a narrative description of the collection. This work will help to preserve the collection, improve accessibility to future researchers, and provide additional historical context.
