“Don’T Make Me Feel Dumb”: Transfer Students, The Library, And Acclimating To A New Campus, Matthew Harrick, Lee Ann Fullington

Publications and Research

Objective – This qualitative study sought to delineate and understand the role of the library in addressing the barriers transfer students experience upon acclimating to their new campus.

Methods – A screening survey was used to recruit transfer students in their first semester at Brooklyn College (BC) to participate in focus groups. The participants discussed the issues they encountered by answering open-ended questions about their experiences on campus, and with the library specifically.

Results – Transfer students desired current information about campus procedures, services, and academic support. They often had to find this information on their own, wasting valuable time. …

Protection of personal data in recent decades became more crucial affecting by emergence of the new technologies especially computer, internet, information and communications technology. However, Europeans felt this necessity at time and provided for up-to-date and supportive laws. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the latest legislation in EU to protect personal data of individuals based on the recent technological advancements. However, its’ domestic and international output still is debatable. In January 2018, the ACRL Health Sciences Interest Group (HSIG) convened a working group to revise the ACRL Information Literacy Competency Standards for Nursing (2013) into a Framework for Information Literacy in Higher Education for Nursing. For nearly two years, the working group has conducted research to understand how nursing faculty integrate information literacy instruction in nursing education. Those tools based on the various approaches including rule-based approach, knowledge-based approach, machine learning-based approach, and the combination. To improve the services of the Indonesian Scientific Journal Database (ISJD), Center for Scientific Data and Documentation – Indonesian Institute of Sciences (PDDI-LIPI) intends to have an automatic bibliographic references extraction tool. The purpose here is to compare the status of website of five IAU unites based on webometrics, Alexa's traffic rating and estimated value of Sinium. This applied research is run through a descriptive method, where Webometrics index, Alexa's traffic rating and estimated value of Sinium are applied. The statistical population consists of five: IAU Kerman, Shiraz, Bushehr, Bandar Abbas and Ahwaz units’ websites. The results reveal that Ahvaz unit with the average of 10356 pages is ranked the highest and the first and Bushehr unit with the lowest 4441 pages is ranked the last. The purpose of this study is to investigate records management practices in selected primary schools in Zimbabwe as factors that contribute to governance, identity, research and memory needs. Independent research addressing records management practices in the context of the developing world is far from extensive. Using the survey approach, this study triangulated a pretested questionnaire, document analysis, an interview schedule and observation techniques to collect data from a sample of 128 primary schools. Despite growing recognition of the importance of public data to the modern economy and to scientific progress, long-term investment in the repositories that manage and disseminate scientific data in easily accessible-ways remains elusive. The study identifies and analyses the areas of strategic importance for European national libraries and sheds light on how they aim to confront the third decade of the twenty-first century. Purpose: The present study aims to acquire depth knowledge about the Book Bank services of select college libraries in Assam, India.

Methodology: This study covers sixteen select college libraries in three districts of Assam, India. Data are collected through a structured questionnaire, interview method, and personal visit of the select college libraries.

Findings: Majority of college libraries have Book Bank Service but are not well-organized. There is lack of uniformity in organization and management of the Book B anks in the college libraries.
