Librarians and instructional designers (IDs) from a university in the U.S. will describe the partnership formed to promote no-cost textbook solutions (OER, library-sourced) in the face of a restrictive environment. The institution is divided in two tiers: the President's Office, which oversees non-academic functions such as Business Services, and the Provost's Office, which is responsible for teaching and learning. This creates an inherent tension concerning course materials and revenue, troubling the conception of education as a fundamentally shared practice. Our group aimed to promote change at the university level, while also collaborating to facilitate the efforts of faculty.

Forsyth Digital Collections presents their content on more than one digital collections platform. Since the acquisition of Digital Commons and the launch of the FHSU Scholars Repository in January 2016, there has been an institutional effort to determine which platform is best suited to displaying existing content. Beginning in 2009, the FHSU Reveille Yearbooks collection had been hosted in CONTENTdm. This collection suffered from issues relating to access and user experience. In 2014 additional effort was put into improving the collection though those efforts did not achieve the desired result. …

This study explores the perception of students about the Internet. Sample consists of 40 students, who belong to Karachi, the metropolitan city of Pakistan. This city is a hub of industrial, educational, and social activities of Pakistan. These students were of an O-level’s school. Their ages range from 15 to 17. All these sampled students are the Internet users. Data were collected through interviews. Results reveal that the students have lucid perception of the Internet and web resources. This study investigated the influence of social media use on library service delivery by librarians in the Federal Universities in South-West, Nigeria. The survey research design was adopted for the study. Total enumeration sampling technique was used to cover the librarians from the Universities. Data was collected through a structured questionnaire. A response rate of 95.4% was obtained. Frequency counts, percentage, mean and standard deviation were used for the data analysis. The study revealed that the extent of use of social media tools for library services was generally low. Findings also revealed that the most popular social media tool used …

UGA Law Library’s longstanding newsletter Amicus Briefs first saw circulation in 1984. Over a period of more than 30 years the publication has changed hands, formats and styles many times. Today the newsletter is published both electronically and physically, and in 2017 is now further expanding its reach via podcasting. This session will trace one library newsletter’s journey, sharing lessons learned along the way about platform and content choices, marketing and dissemination, and measuring readership. The past and present technology used will also be discussed including HTML, Drupal, WordPress, MailChimp, Google Analytics, Facebook and Piktochart.

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to investigate the awareness level of librarians about various ICT applications in University of the Punjab (PU) and to examine the constraints and issues they are facing in acquisition of modern ICT skills.

Methodology

A questionnaire was developed and administered to 80 professional librarians having graduate and postgraduate qualification. Data was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS 19.0).

Findings

Data analysis revealed that 99% of the participants are computer literate, having good knowledge of library automation and digitization. The knowledge of web based services such as e-mail, search engine, chatting, e-resources …

The Anchor: 2017

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

Jessica Garner, Jessica Williams, Fred Smith, and Jermaine Bryant conducted a qualitative research study with IRB approval to explore this concern. In this session, the presenters will describe how data suggest a more streamlined approach to redirecting searches originating in the library for outside sources to assets already physically (or electronically) stored in the library.
