Factors That Influence Male Millennials To Become Professional Librarians, Heidi Blackburn

Criss Library Faculty Publications

This case study investigates what prompts male Millennials to join the historically stereotyped feminized library profession. The study addresses social, cultural, economic, and/or political factors that influence male Millennials to become professional librarians; the influence of technology on male Millennials currently enrolled in library and information science (LIS) graduate programs decisions to become professional librarians; and professional stereotypes male Millennials currently enrolled in LIS graduate programs encounter. To gather data, surveys were conducted with 231 participants enrolled in 37 LIS graduate programs across the United States, and semi-structured interviews were conducted with 21 volunteers who participated in the surveys. Information Literacy And Instruction: Information Literacy Instruction With Primo, Elena S. Azadbakht

Faculty Publications

Discovery services are changing the way library users find and access library materials, especially electronic resources. These search tools are also impacting information literacy instruction for users at all skill levels. The University of Southern Mississippi Libraries in Hattiesburg adopted Ex Libris’s Primo discovery service during the summer of 2014. Possible Futures: E-Reserves, Decentralization, And Collaboration, Nora Almeida Apr 2015

Challenges facing E-Reserve services are compounded by a professional culture of isolation and by the absence of best practices and internal assessment measures that can serve as effective rubrics to measure changes or test the efficacy of current service models. This …

Sowing The Seeds Of Success: Community Collaboration For College Readiness, Gayle Schaub, Lindy Scripps-Hoekstra

Presentations

The challenge of creating information literate college students begins long before freshmen enter the university classroom. This poster details a unique collaboration between a university, a community foundation, and a public school to offer middle school information literacy workshops, using threshold concepts as a basis for its curriculum. This approach to community engagement offers ideas others may want to consider about moving collaborative information literacy initiatives beyond the campus.
