Social Media’S Magnetism Towards Researchers: Implications For Libraries, Rubina Bhatti

The study explored the spell of social media among M.Phil and PhD scholars of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur and Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan. Researchers’ usage purposes of five social media were asked. Responses were analyzed quantitatively. Maximum (58%) respondents were highly familiar with social media. Facebook was at the top. Researchers strongly agreed that they use Facebook for interaction with friends, Twitter for enhancing social presence, Google + for identifying the popular topics, Linked In for getting job opportunities, and Blogger for getting fame. Electrical power supply is a panacea for provision of e-library services such as the e- newspaper services in university libraries. The power failure affects the efficacy and effectiveness of e-newspaper services in today’s university libraries. The study examined effects of electricity outage on e-newspaper services in university libraries in Nigeria with Samuel Adegboyega University, Ogwa, Edo State as a case study. The methodology of this article is through descriptive research based on document-analysis on previous articles and literatures on zakat between 2003 until 2013. Data from each articles related in this field were collected and statistically analyzed using the Statistical Product & Service Solution (SPSS) software. The purpose of this study is to explore the effect of taking advantage of electronic books on the academic progress of students at Payame Noor University, Iran. This research is of descriptive and survey methodology. The statistical population includes the students of public administration in Shiraz Payame Noor University, who are studying in the academic year 2013-2014. 142 students have been chosen by simple random sampling.

The elderly people are of intrinsic value to societies. Their health is Africa’s wealth. Unfortunately, Africa has serious health burden raging from diseases, poverty ignorance that hardly support healthy ageing. Development indicators from World Health Organization and the World Bank provide glaring evidence that Africa countries are far behind other regions of the world in health conditions of the citizens. This paper discusses the benefits that accrue from having a healthy old age population. Such includes poverty reduction, stress free ageing, assisting in taking care of young ones. The Singapore Management University (SMU) Library was tasked with documenting the early history of SMU by the chairman of its board of trustees. An oral history project to interview the pioneers involved in the formation of the university began in 2011. The project team included the Library, the Information Technology department, and a researcher/interviewer who was familiar with SMU. It was a steep learning curve for the team. As they conducted and processed the interviews, they learned about and made decisions on interviewing, recording, transcribing, storage, website design, discoverability, usability, and sustainability. This article provides an overview of the creation and installation of the Document Academy (DOCAM) 2014 Instantiation, an experimental exhibition intended to develop a three dimensional representation of the DOCAM 2014 participants’ spoken presentations. During the installation process, it was evident that the Instantiation resembled a current trend in the museum profession known as “The Pop-Up Museum.” An evaluation of the Instantiation in the context of the Pop-Up Museum uncovered a similar core objective, the ability to create meaningful conversations centered around the participants’ documents on display. Proceedings from the Document Academy

This paper describes one session from the 2014 Document Academy that used an atypical presentation style inspired by the unconference trend. The session explored the meaning and language used to describe and discuss representations of documents and was purposefully open-ended by design. By incorporating the Document Academy participants as active members of the presentation, we were able to create a space that encouraged the sharing of thoughts and expertise leading to rich discussion of the proposed topic. This paper aims to entertain the possibilities for analysis, interpretation, and learning offered by evocative autoethnographic texts for LAM and LIS user studies. The focus in this paper is on storytelling as autoethnographic writing. To illustrate facets of a particular cultural experience and start a conversation about the transformative power of museum objects as documents, the story told in this paper recounts a series of events and experiences from the life of two visitors after their museum encounter with an engraved shell artifact from the archeological site of Spiro Mounds in Oklahoma.

This presentation provides a model for the design and implementation of a successful credit-bearing information literacy course that addresses the most common objections against stand-alone library instruction. It emphasizes two key principles, making it relevant to students and university administrators alike: integration into the university general education program, and the contextualization of information-seeking mechanics by introducing students to the economic, political and social context in which information is produced, managed and used. These principles lay the foundation for the development of critical information literacy skills that students can transfer to other courses and beyond. The use of the web-scale discovery product Summon has changed the ways in which EMU librarians provide research instruction to students, from beginner to graduate. Librarians were pleasantly surprised to realize that they could spend more time focusing on making sense of academic sources and less time teaching database-specific searching tips. This has strengthened instruction librarians’ emphasis on evaluation of sources in all instruction sessions, regardless of whether they involve the use of Summon. Presenters will also discuss user feedback and the other benefits and challenges of using a web-scale discovery product.
