Conversations about universal design and accessibility have been commonplace among web developers since the 90s but they are just now beginning to emerge in the world of library digital collections. The very nature of materials often presented in digital collections create barriers to accessibility. One possible solution can be found in metadata. In the next 5 minutes I hope to briefly show how the quality and configuration of metadata can have a positive effect on accessibility of image collections.

This article reports on the transfer of a massive scientific dataset from a national laboratory to a university library, and from one kind of workforce to another. We use the transfer of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) archive to examine the emergence of a new workforce for scientific research data management. Many individuals with diverse educational backgrounds and domain experience are involved in SDSS data management: domain scientists, computer scientists, software and systems engineers, programmers, and librarians. This workshop is aimed at individuals either currently participating in or desiring to participate in the NACO-AV Funnel Project, in addition to those wishing to learn how to create name-authority records in the RDA environment. The construction of both authorized and variant access points for personal name, corporate name, and titles will be covered, specifically based on MARC encoding. In this poster session, we share our expertise in the development of short videos for use in information literacy programming. Specifically, we address development and assessment of learning outcomes for our One Minute Tips video series, and the relevant subject categories for students at our university. Additionally, we discuss the concept of information layering, and how to successfully incorporate elements of popular culture. We provide tips for promotion and use as well as assessing usage metrics. Since 2010, the library at the Institute of Technology Tallaght (ITT Dublin) in South County Dublin, Republic of Ireland, has been developing a suite of interactive online information literacy tutorials covering research, referencing, plagiarism and core academic skills. These open educational resources (OERs) provide users with a vibrant, challenging learning environment and facilitate flexible, 24/7, independent learning. The learning objects are accessible via multiple delivery platforms and are available for reuse under Creative Commons licence via national and international teaching and learning repositories.

The instruction librarians at a four-year, private university developed a multi-year information literacy instruction program to meet recently implemented information literacy learning outcomes in the university’s new core curriculum. The sequential information literacy instruction program includes two required library interventions in the first year - a tutorial to introduce students to basic information literacy concepts and a face-to-face library instruction session to build on the concepts learned in the tutorial. This structured program has presented many opportunities for the librarians to experiment with and assess creative and innovative approaches to instruction. However, it wasn’t until she was accepted into the American Needlepoint Guild’s Master Needlework Artist Program that she developed a deep appreciation for unrestricted online access to primary source documents.
