Collaborative Research In Economics In Pakistan: The Case Of Pakistan Development Review From 1973 To 2009, Sajjad Ullah Jan, Mumtaz Ali Anwar

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

ABSTRACT

The pattern of collaborative authorship (extent of international collaboration and degree of collaboration) and institutional affiliation in the papers of the Pakistan Development Review were determined by using bibliometric techniques. The sample used was the papers published during 1973-2009. Of the 1627 papers, 723 (44.44%) were the result of collaborative effort. International collaboration was observed only in 94 papers. The degree of collaboration was 0.44 as a whole and the year-wise calculated degree ranged between 0.13 and 0.76. The year 2009 was the most productive year in terms of collaborative research.

Cultures Of Access: Differences In Rhetoric Around Open Access Repositories In Africa And The United States And Their Implications For The Open Access Movement, Natalia T. Bowdoin Aug 2013

Cultures Of Access: Differences In Rhetoric Around Open Access Repositories In Africa And The United States And Their Implications For The Open Access Movement, Natalia T. Bowdoin

Faculty Publications

Open Access (OA) refers to free, online access to peer reviewed scholarship. Many OA proponents view OA as a potential mechanism for reversing inequities in information flows between industrialized and non-industrialized nations. The "green road" of OA (self-archiving in an OA institutional repository) has seen substantial growth in African nations where there have historically been chronic problems both with access to scholarly and scientific materials and participation in the larger scholarly and scientific community. For this study I examined the rhetoric used by OA institutional repositories and what this rhetoric may say about different "cultures of OA". I conducted textual …

"We Hope It Helps": The Impact Of Incentives On Libqual+ Response Rates, Jennifer E. Nutefall

Staff publications, research, and presentations

Purpose: Our research focuses on the question: what is the perception among librarians of the impact of lottery incentives on response rates to the LibQual+ survey? Design/Methodology/Approach: A LibQual+ incentives survey was developed by the researchers to find out why administrators do or do not offer incentives, what types of incentives are offered, and what the perception is of the impact of lottery incentives for the LibQual+ survey. The 25-item questionnaire was administered to all 124 US and Canadian (English language only) academic libraries (excluding community college) that participated in LibQual+ in 2010. Additionally, data for the LibQual+ data repository …

Scholarbank@Nus: Bank Deposits That Grow Constantly, Building Knowledge For The Future, Kim Kee Toh, Stephanie Yen Ping Ng

2013 Institutional Repository Day

In response to the open access movement, National University of Singapore implemented ScholarBank@NUS, the institutional repository in April 2010. Investment in resources to collect, preserve and make NUS’ scholarly output accessible to the world is considerable but worthwhile. Our initial deposits were students’ electronic theses and dissertations (ETD). An interface was developed to automatically transfer the theses from the Registrar's Office's ETD system. From ETD, we moved on to staff publications, music recordings and patents. Harvesting of staff publications (mainly journal articles and conference papers) is a huge challenge. To harvest more than 50,000 staff publication metadata took longer than …

Institutional Repositories As A Vehicle For Transforming Students To Scholars, Sharon B. Mader

2013 Institutional Repository Day

As more and more universities are developing institutional repositories to facilitate global knowledge sharing through open access resources, students are participating in these IR's in a variety of ways. This presentation will explore how undergraduate and graduate students are involved in Institutional Repositories and why active engagement in IR's as creators and disseminators of research content can lead to achievement of learning outcomes which will provide them with an understanding of the social, ethical, legal, intellectual, and economic facets of scholarly communications. With the emerging convergence of scholarly communications and information literacy, universities can use institutional repositories to ensure that …

From Conception To Reality: Building A Successful Ir At Utah State University, Richard W. Clement Aug 2013

From Conception To Reality: Building A Successful Ir At Utah State University, Richard W. Clement

2013 Institutional Repository Day

Utah State University's conception for its institutional repository has been broad from the outset. Our vision has extended far beyond depositing copies of ETDs and collecting previously published peer-reviewed faculty articles, though these remain important components. We recognized and envisioned a broad continuum of scholarly content created on campus that would benefit from the greater access and visibility afforded by deposit in an IR. This continuum ranges from the University Press and scholarly journals to the reports of the Agricultural Extension Service and the technical reports of the Utah Water Laboratory to student research posters, and much more. We also …
