This session will cover sources of information, when to input a new record, special considerations for music videos, physical/technical descriptions, streaming video, and other topics to be determined by audience interest. Attendees should have a basic knowledge of the MARC 21 format for Visual Materials and AACR2 cataloging rules for videorecordings. Electronic resources are now a key component of many libraries. We have long known that catalog records for individual resources facilitate discovery and access. However, as libraries continue to increase their acquisition of electronic resources by purchasing packages of serials, ebooks, and streaming media content, cataloging individual titles isn’t always a possibility. Instead, libraries often rely upon outside sources for their MARC records and load records in large sets. The Anchor: 2012

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

Rare earth minerals contain unique chemical and physical properties such as lanthanum, are found in small concentrations, need extensive precise processes to separate, and are critical components of modern technologies such as laser guidance systems, personal electronics such as Blackberries, and satellites. The U.S. has some rare earth resources, but is heavily dependent on access to them from from Afghanistan, Bolivia, and China. Losing access to these resources would have significant economic, military, and political implications. One of the primary functions of universities is the discovery and dissemination of new knowledge. Yet, most institutions only focus on supporting faculty in the initial discovery process, requiring researchers to fend for themselves when sharing their work. Institutional repositories (IRs) have a unique opportunity to expand traditional library services by supporting the dissemination of university research. Thinking beyond archiving graduate theses and faculty publications, librarians are developing new IR services which can assist faculty in a variety of ways.
