Information has some unique characteristics. Unlike most other goods and services, it is neither rival (use by one prevents use by others) nor non-rival (use by one does not affect use by others), but is enhanced with increased use, or ‘additive’. Therefore a unique allocation system for both the production and consumption of information is needed. Under the current market-based allocation system, production of information is often limited through the exclusive rights produced by patents and copyrights. This limits scientists' ability to share and build on each other's knowledge. We break the problem down into three separate questions: (1) do …

One of the primary functions of universities is the discovery and dissemination of new knowledge. Yet, most institutions only focus on supporting faculty in the initial discovery process, requiring researchers to fend for themselves when sharing their work. Institutional repositories (IRs) have a unique opportunity to expand traditional library services by supporting the dissemination of university research.

Thinking beyond archiving graduate theses and faculty publications, librarians are developing new IR services which can assist faculty in a variety of ways. The Anchor: 2011

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

Many people feel they no longer need to visit the library because information is accessible, 24-7, from almost anywhere. Librarian Perceptions And Information Literacy Instruction Models, Erin Davis, Kacy Lundstrom, Pamela N. Martin

Purpose – This paper aims to explore both instruction librarians' attitudes on teaching and how they identify themselves as teachers. Particular attention is to be paid to teaching librarians' views on the effectiveness of two types of instruction models: for-credit courses and course-integrated library instruction.

Design/methodology/approach – To investigate librarians' attitudes towards these two models, a survey was constructed targeting librarians who teach information literacy (IL).

Findings – The results indicate that there is an important relationship between the IL instruction model employed and feelings towards campus politics, perceived effectiveness of IL models, and librarians' self-identification as teachers.

This collection contains the administrative and promotional materials of the Nancy Hart Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. It also contains historical documents that highlight the organization’s long history, the history of Milledgeville/ Baldwin County as well as state and national history. The inclusive dates for the collection are 1747 to 2010 and the bulk dates are 1930- 2010 with comprehensive and detailed meeting minutes and scrapbooks.

Buying a print book is relatively easy. With the introduction of library ebooks in 1999, however, a once-straightforward process took on many complexities. Before starting, ask yourself why your library needs to purchase ebooks. Is it to expand a collection or to increase the buying power of a group of libraries? To replace existing print collections, offer new services, or experiment with new business models in the hope of saving money? Whatever the reason, it is imperative to keep your goals in mind.
