Difference Practices In Manuscript Cataloging In Egypt: How Could They Be Reconciled?, Walid Ghali

This paper aims to explain the different cataloging practices in the Egyptian institutions that have manuscripts. There are many reasons for these differences. Firstly, the different cataloging standards applied to manuscripts in all institutions; Secondly, the scarcity of qualified manuscript cataloger; thirdly, the newness of the technological solutions such as bibliographic databases and metadata applications in Egyptian libraries. Finally, although the manuscripts are found in many institutions in Egypt, there is no planning that governs their collection and cataloging.

Going For The Gold: Recruiting Students And Engaging Administrators Through Education And Entertainment In The Library, Michele D. Behr, Maira Bundza, Barbara J. Cockrell

University Libraries Faculty & Staff Publications

Western Michigan University Libraries partnered with the university administration's recruitment efforts on campus. Library staff created and hosted an evening of instructional games to provide experiential learning, social interaction, and fun in the library for scholarship-seeking millennials. Students discovered information in archival materials, compared search results in a library database and Google, examined plagiarism issues, formatted citations, and used the catalog to locate specific items throughout the library. In their evaluations, students reported they learned about finding library materials and plagiarism issues. They rated teamwork, the archival challenge, and catalog activities most enjoyable. This is the second in a continuing series of interviews of Guild members. Current and former Exhibitions Chairs Karen Hanmer and Peter Verheyen met at Standards in Chicago in 1999. She never dreamed his subliminal messages would entice her from making “freaky-foldies” to become a binder. He never suspected she would attempt to seduce him to the other side with odd examples of vaguely book-like ephemera. They share an appreciation of fine craft, spare design, and excessively robust (read Teutonic) endsheets.

A Rough Measure Of Copy Cataloging Productivity In The Academic Library, John Buschman, F. William Chickering

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

A benchmark for copy cataloging productivity at a medium-sized academic library was developed in response to management challenges. We posited that too many details have obscured an informative rough productivity benchmark after reviewing local results. Data reviewed in the aggregate over time measured against hours worked produced comparable results in three larger studies.

Task-Based Mood Induction Procedures For The Elicitation Of Natural Emotional Responses., Brian Vaughan, Charlie Cullen, Spyros Kousidis, Yi Wang

This paper details experimental procedures designed to elicit real emotional responses from participants within a controlled acoustic environment. The experiments use Mood Induction Procedures (MIP’s), specifically MIP 4, to implement a co-operative task using two participants. These cooperative tasks are designed to engender emotional responses of activation and evaluation from the participants who are situated in separate isolation booths, thus reducing unwanted noise in the signal, preventing the participants from being distracted and ensuring a cleanly recorded audio signal. The audio is recorded at a professional level of quality (24bit/192Khz). The emotional dimensions of each audio recording will be evaluated …
