The Anchor, Volume 120.02: September 13, 2006, Hope College
The Anchor: 2006
The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

Presented at the 2006 Indiana University (IU) School of Social Work Fall Faculty Retreat, this presentation focused on plagiarism prevention and detection strategies for IU-affiliated faculty. Instructional strategies to help prevent plagiarism were shared, and the Turnitin plagiarism detection tool was demonstrated and discussed.

The photographs and slides in this collection document campus activities and student life at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg. J. M. “Sudsy” Tschiderer donated three scrapbooks in summer 2005 to the Nelson Poynter Memorial Library for use in the Fortieth Anniversary Exhibit of the campus. She gave the library additional slides, photographs, and photographic negatives in August 2006. These images illustrate the period from the mid-1960s through 1989 and capture notable events, members of the campus community, and general scenes that document the university experience at USF St. Petersburg.

Internet Filtering And The Adolescent Gay/Lesbian Patron, David Brian Holt

With the recent passage of the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA), and its constitutionality subsequently affirmed by the Supreme Court, libraries are faced with challenges presented by Internet filtering, and the obstacles to access it poses for disadvantaged patron groups. This paper discusses the ramifications of Internet filtering at public libraries on sexual minority youth and how this may translate into a negative health impact on this community and a restriction on intellectual freedom. Topics discussed include filtering technology, the risks it presents to equitable access, the disproportionate effect on the gay/lesbian community, and how filtering impairs the creation of …

An Evaluation Of Library Instruction Delivered To Engineering Students Using Streaming Video, Jack M. Maness
University Libraries: Faculty Scholarship
This paper evaluates the use of streaming video applications in the delivery of information literacy instruction to engineering students. It describes the University of Colorado at Boulder (UCB) Engineering Library's implementation of streaming video to support graduate distance programs in the Center for Advanced Engineering and Technology Education (CAETE), and reviews library literature regarding the use of streaming technology. As an initial evaluation of the project, the preliminary results of a survey (n=27) comparing satisfaction levels and learning outcomes between students who attended library instruction sessions in-class versus via streaming video are given. The 2005 Continuing Education Survey: What Science Librarians Want To Know, Elizabeth S. Hopkins, Terri Freedman, Camila Gabaldon, Virgina Baldwin, Jill Powell

The biennial STS continuing education survey was conducted at the end of 2005, in collaboration with two other organizations of science librarians. The top continuing education needs of science librarians include new technologies, professional development and keeping current, institutional repositories/digital archives, promoting science information literacy, collaboration between faculty and librarians, and finding free high-quality online data. This paper describes the process of developing and administering the survey and discusses the survey results.
