Internet Use Among Undergraduate Students Of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Nigeria, Olubanke Mofoluwaso Bankole, Babalola Stephen Oludayo Mr

This study sought to determine the extent of internet access and use by students of Olabisi Onabanjo University(OOU), Ago Iwoye, Nigeria. A descriptive questionnaire survey was employed to obtain data from a sample of 1140 undergraduate students of OOU from March to April, 2010 with a total of 1066 validly retuned representing response rate of 91.3%. Additional information was also obtained with an informal interview and observations. The results showed that almost all the respondents (97.6%) had accessed the internet, with mean internet use experience of 4.2 years. This paper provides an overview of Open Access Repository (OAR) initiatives taken in Asian Countries with special reference to SAARC Countries. The purpose of this study is to take a broad look at the current state of deployment of OARs in the Asian countries. It also compares selected OARs against a set of carefully crafted criteria. Key findings have been highlighted along with suggestions for further development of OARs in global context.

This paper discusses the library automation and e-library project of Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo, Nigeria. It examines the evolution of the college, the planning process and the implementation of library automation and e-library/Internet facilities. The paper looks at different phases to which the project was divided and provides a detailed overview of how each phase was designed and executed which can help librarians make decisions about automation and e-library projects. Few of the challenges encountered are highlighted and solutions proffered.

The study investigated the access to and use of information centres among scientists at Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, Crops Research Institute (CSIR-CRI), Kumasi, Ghana. The study aimed at ascertaining the level of access to and use of information centres among scientists. The research design for the study was a study case. Questionnaire and interview schedule were used to collect data from 73 scientists and 3 library staff respectively. A collection development policy is a significant library document with an intention of building its collections based on some standards and aimed to support the vision, mission, goals and objectives of the parent institution. This paper presents the “The Development of Collection Development Policy” which is largely based from the perceived collection development practices and suggestions of its stakeholders. The survey questionnaire contains statements pertaining to the current practices on collection development of the library such as selection, acquisition, donation, weeding, preservation, loss and replacement, and copyright laws.

Library Values That Interface With Technology: Public Service Information Professionals, Zotero, And Open Source Software Decision Making, Peter Fernandez

Decisions about which software to use are increasingly made by individual public service professionals. This article contextualizes those decisions and their implications within the framework of existing library values such as collaboration, intellectual freedom, and public good. The open-source bibliographic management tool Zotero provides an apt example that clarifies how public service information professionals need to conceptualize their technology decisions. The development model of software has repercussions, both short and long-term, that must be taken into account so that public service information professionals can effectively represent their values and serve their users.

This paper presents a quantitative analysis of remote sensing, in terms of research out put throughout the world during 1975 – FEB 2010. During that period, 1188 papers have been published and the cited references have been 30654. The average number of publications published per year has been 38.07. The highest number of paper (119) was published in the year of 2009. The USA topped the list with 473 (39.8%) publications, followed by UK with 128 (10.8%) publications, India with 93 (7.8%) publications respectively. Content Analysis Of Agricultural Issues Reported In Two Nigerian Daily Newspapers, E.A. Awojobi, O.A. Adeokun

This study used two widely read Nigerian newspapers (Punch and Guardian) to assess the extent of daily newspapers involvement in disseminating agricultural information. Samples of the newspapers between 2007 and 2010 were analysed for daily reportage, space allocation and types of stories published. All data collected were analysed using simple descriptive statistics. Results showed that 70%, 78.8%, 66.3% and 60% of the newspapers evaluated did not report any agricultural issues in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 respectively. This study aims to examine the current status; collection; services; use of information technologies, budget and sources of budget in the departmental libraries at University of Peshawar. Questionnaire was distributed among the population of all library professionals working in departmental libraries (N=36, 100%) with the response rate of (N=28, 80.2%).SPSS (Version 19) was used for quantitative data analysis. This paper analyses citation patterns in 30 doctoral theses in the field of Education Sciences, submitted at the University of Córdoba (Spain) between 1997 and 2010. A preference was found for citing books as opposed to articles. The most widely-cited journal was a Spanish education-specific publication, Enseñanza de las ciencias. Only a small number of journals from the stock of periodical publications held and managed by the Faculty of Education Sciences Library were cited.

The article presents the result of a survey on the challenges and frustrations of software adoption in Nigerian libraries. This is done through questionnaire administered to some selected libraries that cut across academic, research and seminary libraries. Many libraries are now moving towards in-house development of new software to meet their requirements and to provide efficient services. This paper examines and explores the web impact factor through a webometric study of the present 16 Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) of India. Identifies the domain systems of the websites; analyzes the number of web pages and link pages, and calculates the simple web impact factor (WIF), self link web impact factor and external web impact factor of all the IIT. Also reflects that some IIT have higher number of web pages, but correspondingly their link pages are very small in number and websites fall behind in their simple, self link and external link web impact factor.

This article reports the results of a study of information needs and seeking behavior of the law faculty members in the University of Peshawar and its seventeen affiliated law colleges, Khayber Pakhtookhawa (North Western Frontier Post NWFP, Pakistan). Their preferences regarding various information sources, channels, methods, library use patterns, convenient study places, satisfaction level and problems encountered by them in their information needs and seeking have been explored though quantitative survey.
