Growth And Development Of Architectural Engineering College Libraries In Haryana, India, Rajender Kumar
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Introduction
Architectural engineering education plays a vital role in the building community and educates future leaders in planning and design of outdoor space. Information is a key element for any kind of research and development. Libraries help accelerate knowledge, creation in collaboration with educational and research organizations. The library helps improve collections, maintains, preserves, and organizes documents, cooperates with other institutions and is a link between information sources and users (Ku, 1996). Today’s libraries focus on electronic publications to provide rapid access to information and save storage space for traditional resources (Thakur, 2003). The pillars of the development of libraries …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
"A commitment to scholarly work carries with it a responsibility to circulate that work as widely as possible: this is the access principle. In the digital age, that responsibility includes exploring new publishing technologies and economic models to improve access to scholarly work. Wide circulation adds value to published work; it is a significant aspect of its claim to be knowledge. The right to know and the right to be known are inextricably mixed. Open Access can benefit both" (Willinsky, 2010). Increasingly, this capacity to close the gap between developed and less developed countries through access to information becomes more …

Introduction
In Nigeria, governments constitute the largest employer of labour – Federal, State, and Local Governments, including their parastatals. As a result of this, the burden of paying retirement benefits appear to be too much for each succeeding government of the day – pension and gratuities have remained unpaid for years by the various levels of government.
Because of this, many workers, upon retirement have nothing to fall back upon, and therefore, languish and eventually die prematurely and in penury. In extreme cases, retirement benefits were only paid posthumously to the next-of-kin of deserving workers.
Generally, Nigerian workers/employees in public …

Introduction
In library and information science research, information can be seen as a consumable product that can only be consumed together with certain information delivery systems and/or services. The satisfaction of library users is a function of the quality of information product(s) received, the quality of information system and library services provided to access the information product. Therefore, satisfaction is a function of three main sources— quality of the information product, the information system and the services that make the information product available. These three levels of measure of satisfaction are defined by the information resources, facilities and services in …

"Tamasomam Jyotirgamayah" (O Mother! Lead us from darkness to light) - has always been the essence of Indian spiritual being. Ethereally speaking, it has also been the wish of the modern man to escape from darkness to light- both metaphysically and metaphorically. The means that man has invented to meet this end is nothing else than the electricity. Today, it would be as much naïve to imagine the modern man without electricity as nihilistic to imagine the fish out of water (Razdan, 2003). Electricity is not a matter of life and death. It is a lot more important than …

Traditionally, academic libraries have held the responsibility of housing, disseminating, and preserving the scholarly output of their universities. These materials, including but not limited to student dissertations and theses, as well as faculty publications were--and still are-- primarily held in the libraries’ archives and special collections departments. With the unstoppable march of bits and bites, academic libraries experience an increasingly strong push towards preserving digital records of scholarly output in electronic Institutional Repositories (IR). While undeniably an exciting and versatile invention, the establishment and management of an IR can at the same time be an intimidating endeavor.Over the course of …

For an educational programme to succeed, adequate attention must be paid to the development of its library services. Ogunrombi (2005) cited Idowu (1988) and stressed that a developing country like Nigeria, even thought faced with the problems of basic social necessities such as food, shelter, among others cannot afford to abandon library services in its educational programme.
School libraries must be assisted by proper funding to acquire relevant and varied materials for this purpose. Books and non-book materials must be provided. They must be well organized, and the right caliber of staff must be put in place to disseminate …

The conventional services and traditional role of university libraries is changed due to multiple sources of information, high demand of users, and application of information technology, competition among service sectors and high student enrolments. The university libraries are also facing different challenges such as advances in information technology, rising cost of material, increased accessibility of research materials via the Web and tentative budget allocations.
Each of these challenges requires library administration to become more concerned of their users' expectations. "Retaining and growing their customer base and focusing more energy on meeting their customers' expectations is the only way for …

Introduction
Information seeking theories often refer to the concept of information needs, a presumed cognitive state wherein an individual's need state triggers the search behavior characteristic of information seeking in a given context. With the growth of electronic information and the increasing availability of health information, the idea of the 'informed patient' has become prominent. On the one hand, this has resulted in concerns about associated changes in the doctor-patient relationship and health outcomes [1]; on the other, it has given rise to visions of timely, high quality, accessible, understandable, reliable, and relevant information for patients and care-providers [2] Certainly, …

Bhattacharjee (2001) says that local content is generally defined as a work which is produced under the creative control of nationals of the country. The Quran urges the mankind to think, ponder, reflect and acquire knowledge that would bring them closer to God and his creation. The Quran uses repetition to embed certain key concepts in the consciousness of its listeners. Allah (God) and Rab (the Sustainer) are repeated 2,800 and 950 times, respectively, in the sacred text; Ilm (knowledge) comes third with 750 mentions.

A characteristic of organisations in the 21st century is the continuous and rapid pace of change. Volatile free market economic environments, rapidly changing technologies, global competition, workforce diversity, and new organisational structures are some of the challenges an organisation faces. Organisations may differ in the priority they attach to the human resource component, in their efforts toward achieving high productivity and competitive advantage, yet they all recognize the value of a qualified, motivated, stable, and responsive team of employees (Huselid, 1995).
Retention and productivity levels of the existing workforce are an essential concern in human resource management. Employee …
