Who or what an organization thinks it is—its sense of identity—greatly informs the choices it makes. Yet an organization’s identity, which provides coherence and stability, may constrain or enable an organization’s capacity for innovation, which at its core is about doing new or different things. This paper explores the dynamics of organizational identity and innovation through a qualitative study involving leaders from eleven U.S. and Canadian academic research libraries—organizations and a profession that are experiencing an abundance of change and identity threats. This study focuses on developing a scale that encompasses aspects of readiness to change by library management in dealing with the next normal in libraries. It investigates measuring change readiness in terms of library service operations, workflows, administration, programs, and spaces, which can give an overall view of a library institution's preparedness to meet new roles and expectations. While there were several readiness-for-change instruments constructed for various organizations and institutions, this study uses a two-phase approach, attempting to design an instrument and validate the items in this scale. This article explores the impetus, progress, and challenges encountered in developing and managing a library-wide decolonial metadata project at Florida International University (FIU) Libraries. The goal of this initiative is to develop inclusive metadata within our digital collections and finding aids that represent the communities we serve and to develop a metadata remediation plan that ameliorates the harm done by antiquated language. In thinking about the current metadata in our collections, we are engaging a post-colonial mindset that incorporates methods of coping with the ongoing oppression of vulnerable communities. This paper shows the Florida International University (FIU) Libraries' efforts in research data management, implementation, and practice. The FIU Library-based data team has led research projects that are directly built upon institutional and other data repositories, data hubs, and data visualization tools, through collaboration with the user community. Since the early 1990s, the term Open Access has been synonymous with the principle of publishing the scientific results of taxpayer-funded research at low cost and making them available to the public free of charge. In response to increasing academic demand for at least some degree of unrestricted access to research results, this idea of Open Access has been taken up by commercial publishers and harshly altered to accommodate finance models that allow global access to scien-tific and scholarly articles on payment of a publication fee.

i. With Covid-19 came the onset of social distancing, closed campuses, and limited open hours in physical libraries. Instruction librarians shifted to online instruction and had to modify the traditional way of teaching. In face-to-face settings it is easy to read the room. For example, a blank stare usually indicates that the student has “left the room” mentally. This is when an instruction librarian reengages the room by asking a question, changing their intonation, walking around the room, or calling on someone in order to bring back the stargazers. A quantitative survey of faculty perceptions of Open Access (OA)

publishing was conducted at the American University of Sharjah (AUS), a

small liberal arts style University in the United Arab Emirates.

The survey aimed to assess faculty perceptions of the credibility and

quality of OA publishing. We were curious to discover the range of

interpretations and understanding of OA amongst our faculty members

in order to inform ongoing outreach and scholarly communications

activity.

The Library Research Scholars program pairs librarian faculty mentors with undergraduates on a yearlong journey of engaging with research and creating an intellectual product on a topic of their own devising. Each librarian mentor is paired with a Library Research Scholar whose research area of interest coincides with the librarian’s own area of expertise. As mentors, librarians work actively to guide their mentees through an open-ended, research inquiry process. In March 2020, many libraries transitioned from onsite to remote work in an “abundance of caution” due to the coronavirus pandemic. Almost overnight, the varied interactions previously occurring across classrooms, conference rooms, offices, staff lounges, and cafes transformed into endless Zoom sessions. Many library employees consequently noted feeling greater stress, fatigue, and burnout, the latter of which is characterized by emotional exhaustion, cynicism, alienation from work activities, and reduced job performance. We measured how burnout related to affect, personality, job satisfaction, and various characteristics among library employees during this transition to remote work.

Information literacy is essential for business students as they prepare for the workplace they will enter after leaving the university. Prior to graduation, students must also prepare for the information needs they will experience during internships and co-ops. To optimize instruction and teach students the information literacy skills they will need on-the-job, librarians need to understand what information sources employers require students to use during internship/co-op experiences and in what ways. In this study we surveyed business students and alumni at a large Midwestern university who had completed an internship or co-op regarding their information use during these workplace experiences.

As libraries and communities consider institutional values and ethical standards, there is a need to scrutinize how those values and standards connect with collections decisions. An existing body of literature about the contents of the collections exists, with respect to issues like decolonization and open access, but little about the business relationships libraries maintain in order to acquire these collections. In this paper, librarians from Purdue University take a critical approach to identifying the values of their institution at multiple levels, including a newly released Libraries strategic plan, to create a values-based evaluation tool for future collection assessment.

This work provides historical and contemporary overviews of this critical geopolitical problem, describes the policy actors addressing this in the U.S. and selected other countries, and provides maps and information on many undersea cable work routes. These cables are chokepoints with one dictionary defining chokepoints as “a strategic narrow route providing passage through or to another region."

This lightning talk will highlight solving a data access problem for news and public records data. In 2020, a Ph.D. candidate reached out to the business and business librarian when they were hitting licensing issues with huge data downloads from Factiva and ProQuest. This talk will explore different solutions and potential pitfalls surrounding the problem. These data requests are occurring more frequently.
